A young woman spends her days renovating the Victorian mansion that she lives in with her husband in the countryside. When a stranger knocks on the door one night, he becomes an unexpected guest in their home. Later, his wife and two children also arrive to make themselves welcome. Terror soon strikes when the beleaguered wife tries to figure out why her husband is so seemingly friendly and accommodating to everyone but her.

A primeira ½ hora é irritantemente alienante. O filme tem vários estímulos audiovisuais constantemente dando gatilhos de ansiedade e incômodo, que tornam assistí-lo uma experiência quase insuportável. Aronofsky nos coloca no espaço mental de confusão, desnorteamento e ansiedade da personagem de Jennifer Lawrence com competência, é um nível de gaslighting tão intenso que eu não via desde "O Bebê de Rosemary". Mas não gosto da câmera se movendo em close-ups, que ele usa tanto com Jlaw. Tudo envolvendo a multidão na casa parece um grande vídeo de IA tão terrível que você quer parar de assistir mas que nunca acaba. Basicamente a História da humanidade do ponto de vista da mãe-natureza num contexto bíblico e embalou isso como um "home invasion". Porque se tirar essa alegoria, na superfície, não acho que o filme faça muito sentido, exceto se considerarmos um estilo surrealista, como o de David Lynch. Muito ensimesmado e a galera na época se sentia muito inteligente por pescar o óbvio.
