Wendy Ide Observer (UK) I wonder if the dual performance might have had a more forceful impact in the stage incarnation; nevertheless, the film is undeniably potent in its account of the shattering force of grief. Rated: 4/5 Mar 14, 2021 Full Review Steve Rose Guardian The story occasionally verges on self-indulgent (or rather, selves-indulgent), but it is playful and ingenious. Rated: 3/5 Mar 10, 2021 Full Review Katie Walsh Los Angeles Times There's no denying the bracing, honest nature of "Mouthpiece," a truly revolutionary piece of filmmaking. Jun 10, 2019 Full Review Markie Robson-Scott The Arts Desk Leah Fay's choreography and the haunting, humming music composed by Nostbakken carry the film along to its surreal and poignant resolution. Rated: 3/5 Apr 2, 2021 Full Review Ray Lobo Battle Royale With Cheese Mouthpiece captures the difficulties women face, the roles and expectations that pull them in different directions, and the psychological toll it takes. Mar 23, 2021 Full Review Sam Inglis HeyUGuys An original approach to a familiar story, with two brilliantly complimentary performances that add up to one great piece of character work. isla s This film is quite thoughtful - it has a real theatrical feel to it. It didn't surprise me its based on a play. It has quite a floaty/dreamlike look to it. Its mildly amusing at times too. It's got quite shaky camerawork, which may frustrate people and I suppose its not entirely original, plot-wise but I thought its quite good as an arty type of a film and I liked the concept (even if it isn't entirely original) - the concept of there being the 2 versions of the same person - their internal and external self portrayed on screen. I would recommend this film overall - it is a somewhat quirky film which may appeal to some. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review dave d I totally respect what director Patricia Rozema is trying to do here in a film she also wrote with the two stars, but it just isn't my cup of tea. Two people playing the same character at the same time just isn't my bag. Never bought it and didn't like it. Final Score: 3.2/10 Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review nefasto r This gorgeous and original film takes grief as its main theme, but all the digressions on feminism, dualism and our place in this world, are what makes "Mouthpiece" a very fully experience. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Emotional, funny, poignant, relevant. Mouthpiece is a file about the truly genuine human experience of losing a parent and grappling with the different sides of your personality to come to terms with who you are when that person is gone. If you are human, see this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Just saw Mouthpiece at UCLA Royce Hall Rhearsal Room and it is SERIOUSLY The WORST play I have EVER seen...tuneless, charmless, ugly, assaultive, blathering, drivel...absolute horseshit. The poor people sitting through this torture should all be given medals... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Powerful, poignant, riveting, comedic. So many emotions play out in this film. It speaks to women of all ages - and to men too, judging by the audience response. The soundtrack, almost all composed and performed by Amy Nostbakken, is masterful and moving, such an integral part of the production. This movie just grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let you go. It will stay with you long after the final credits have rolled. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
