Dan Schindel Hyperallergic A poisonously funny film that hasn't lost any of its bite, it makes for the perfect anti-Fourth of July viewing. Feb 14, 2020 Full Review Penelope Houston The Spectator Even the film's few satirical thoughts, though, are left dimly trailing in its curdled mixture of would-be sophisticated larking and kindergarten political caricature. Jul 13, 2018 Full Review Phil Hall Film Threat Splattery, none-too-funny anti-American satire. Rated: 1.5/5 Sep 1, 2006 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Mr. Freedom is a political satire that spins American's disastrous attempts to inflict "freedom" on other nations into the violent misadventures of an obnoxious and unfunny superhero. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review simon d Perhaps I was too drunk to appreciate the irony of this film when I saw it but, to me, It seemed like a bad high school project with ham actors on a very low budget making in-jokes. It was all a bit too whacky for me, Sorry Koudi. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member To bee seen without a "patriotic" eyes, this French-American co-production is a satire of the 70's US foreign policy. Entertaining, use the "Red Communism" monster metaphor as an excuse to the "cow-boy police" behavior of some of United States world inter Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Subversive, intelligent political statement--A film that is still relevant today!! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Legendary fashion photographer William Klein's brilliantly art directed and occasionally funny satire made at the height of the Vietnam war about America's aggressive cold-war stance. Virtually every single frame of this flick is whacked out and gorgeous. The whole thing is tarted up in a very pre-punk DIY sort of way... from the fashion to the message. The great Delphine Seyrig is beautiful and amazingly in tune with the odd voice of the film and John Abbey is pitch perfect. Great costumes, sets and photography. The DP is master cinematographer Pierre Lhomme, who lensed "Army of Shadows" and a slew of other classic French films. All and all this is a pretty interesting piece of late 60's zeitgeist. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Satirizing Vietnam-era far right American extremism would seem like a goldmine for humor, but this film gets tedious quickly and the jokes mostly fall flat. I do give it points for the amusingly ridiculous costumes worn by Mr. Freedom. Sometimes even Criterion/Eclipse picks dumb movies to release on dvd.
