      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Leslie Nielsen's affability can't save this dunderheaded update of Mr. Magoo, which delivers a stream of slapstick gags so lame that audiences will feel like they've stepped on a rake.

Robert I love Leslie Nielsen and was excited when I discovered a movie of his I had not yet seen. This excitement was not only short lived, but replaced with regret that I had found said movie. This film had zero redeeming qualities. Honestly, I was envious of Mr. Magoo's blindness, at least he won't ever have to watch this bomb. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/24/24 Full Review Josh G It tries to makes us care about anything that isn't Leslie nelson, but in reality the funny part are all him. Every scene he steals, While the FBI, the CIA and his nephew drag. I have nostalgia for this one saw it growing up many times from the video rental store. I like it for one reason some scenes are funny does it hold up, not really. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/20/22 Full Review Mike J 13 going on 30 is great mark Rudd also is super sexy. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/28/22 Full Review Audience Member All ages; LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Funny and original. I miss Leslie Nielsen (who plays Mr. Magoo better). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Inaki B I guess for kids it's amazing but if you have more that 6 years for sure you are not going to enjoy this movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/21/22 Full Review Audience Member Based on the UPA cartoon and starring Leslie Nielsen as Mr. Magoo. Leslie Nielsen was perfectly cast as the title character and does a good job in that role. The beginning and ending of the movie is animated in the traditional UPA style with Mr. Magoo who is voiced by Greg Burson. I enjoyed that transition from animation to live action. I also enjoyed the first third of the movie as the plot was being set up. But the last half of the movie went off the rails with too much going on and some characters and plot just disappearing until the very end. There is a white actor who dresses up, in disguise, as an Indian and that didn't age well. There is also the question of how Mr. Magoo represents blind people. The latter was less of a concern for me as that is the heart of the original cartoons. There is a disclaimer at the beginning and end of the movie addressing both these issues. I did have one big laugh in this movie, when Mr. Magoo was cooking a chicken. But there should have been more with Leslie Nielson as the lead. This may have been a director issue. They had outtakes during the credits and even they were not funny. Hard pass this movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Achy Obejas Chicago Tribune This Magoo can't seem to figure out if it's for kids or adults. The plot's too simple for adults, with hardly an inside joke or double entendre, thrown in for good measure, yet it may be too confusing for younger kids.
