Blu B The script on paper isn't that focused and in theory this could be very boring to sit through. But the acting, cinematography, and music isn't half bad and has quit e abit of charm to it. Mainly thanks to the chemistry the actors have especially North himself who is likeable. I just wish some of the other supporting cast was a bit more memorable as well. The love interest just kind of is forgotten about as well until the end. Mitchum & Stanton are probably the best things in this also. The setting is memorable, the camerawork is solid, the colors pop, and the shots are very well framed. However the issue really lies in 2 problems. The dialouge can be very hit or miss and this has a tendency to meander more than anything. Sometimes despite shots being nice to look at the dialouge can get a bit flowerly or run on in long winded stories that are a bit hard to understand because of the accents. There are multiple plot lines in this and it never really feels like it all works together until the end does a somewhat decent job of bringing it all together. However, because its quite charming it doesn't really matter that much and I didn't mind the meandering. If this didn't have that charm to it and wasn't as well shot it would be significantly worse. It's got a charming little tale to it but I just wish it was a more focused and refined in certain aspects. Anyone who is a fan of any actors in this or want to see Huston's last passion project will like this. It was quite suprising how charming it is. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/03/23 Full Review steve d It's not as good as the play or book but still enjoyable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I thought this Movie was great If you don't like this then you have no taste. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member i watched mr. north over twenty years ago, and i enjoyed it. i have been trying to remember the title of this movie for two decades until i came across it last night while watching a documentary on john huston, the father of the director this movie, danny huston. so happy to rediscover Mr. North. with all due respect for the seasoned critics, i suggest that you ignore their negative criticism-sometimes they try too hard to read too much into a simply cute and beautiful story. it's a lovely movie for the whole family. i know you'll enjoy it too :-) Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Mr. North is a charming, sophisticated and wittily performed comedy of manners. There are no aliens, nor special effects. What there is is a cast of perfection, who performs this tongue in cheek delight flawlessly. Edwards, Bacall, Stanton and the great Robert Mitchum head a cast that has just the right touch for this adaptation of Thornton Wilder's novel. Newport, Rhode Island is the exquisite setting for this little jewel. I could not help but wish that the film had been more successful financially, for then we might have availed ourselves of The Further Adventures of Mr. North. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Intriguing cast, offbeat movie, strange viewing experience Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
