Anton Bitel Little White Lies mixing and matching with wild abandon scenes of knockabout comedy, wire-wrought martial arts, monster horror and wacky dancing. Jul 20, 2020 Full Review Dallas King Flick Feast The fight scenes are superbly choreographed, energetically shot and breath new (after)life into the film... It is fangtastically good fun. Rated: 3/5 Nov 12, 2022 Full Review Chase Burns The Stranger (Seattle, WA) Jiangshi is a kind of hybrid vampire and zombie, but the film is generally fast and loose with its monsters. Consistency is not a strength of this era of Hong Kong horror, nor does anyone want it to be. Dec 8, 2021 Full Review Chris Ward Flickering Myth Mr. Vampire is tremendous fun, full of atmosphere, funny and exciting in all the right doses. Aug 1, 2020 Full Review Panos Kotzathanasis Asian Movie Pulse "Mr Vampire" is a genre classic, whose amalgam of mainstream elements will satisfy any viewer who wants to have fun. Jul 26, 2020 Full Review Kelechi Ehenulo VultureHound While Ricky Lau never quite repeated his success in the following sequels it spawned, nevertheless, Mr Vampire offers a weird, crazy, wild, and caper-filled alternative to the genre that's worth checking out. s r Bizarre Chinese take on vampires. It was entertaining at times despite its silliness. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The best vampire movie ever Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a classic movie that combines comedy and horror in a way I haven't seen since. Why doesn't this happen more often? I put this movie on my special list that includes classics such as The Gods Must Be Crazy and The Goonies. Unforgettable. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member A classic of HK vampire movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Western audiences may be deceived by the title, but this is indeed a zombie movie, though also not a Western zombie movie. Blending love story, horror, and kung fu tropes, it may sound like this Cantonese flick can't settle on a consistent tone, yet it always falls back on humourous, if not self-aware. Still, what passed as light-hearted kids jokes in '85 in HK now comes off as flat-out offensive, making the more egregious examples of swearing in the English subs all the more unexpected and accidentally hilarious. While the story is indeed overlong, it never grows boring, with plenty of diversion and good overcranked photography to showcase the graceful fight choreography for which the HK scene is known. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Trend-setting Chinese cult film is slapsticky fun, if you're in the right mood.
