Audience Member The power of music. Great doco. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Honourable mention: one of the best films of 2011. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Burwood has never looked so good! An enjoyable, personable, intelligent, emotional and interesting doco. I love the lack of any narration or voice over, allowing the subjects to speak/feel for themselves. The casual banter and swearing from the girls is at odds with the outward assumptions and general image of a private girls school orchestra performing at the Sydney Opera House (of which there was one too many images, although a few great ones thru train/car passenger perspectives). I loved the uncooperative and sassy student as well as the music teacher who led the process and spoke to a parent (on her mobile phone, to sort out an issue) towards the end. Australian tears, sadness, joy, profound insights, emotions, adolescents and teachers. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Really interesting documentary. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member This was such an interesting documentary both as a film watcher and as a former school musician. The passion of Mrs Carey for music is evident and its impact and manifestation on the two girls that we follow throughout the documentary is both familiar and unexpected. Having been involved both as a player in school music concerts and to a much lesser extent involved in some minor backstage concert aspects, I can understand where the students and teachers are coming from. As a documentary, it is not a saccharinely sweet with the inspirational, speech tug at the heartstrings moment that infects many Hollywood films. Instead, the fly on the wall approach successfully works in this documentary. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member I watched this last night and can't stop thinking about it - definitely a sign of a good movie. Really felt for the kids and the pressure that they were under, but also very inspiring - work hard to achieve something special.
