Fearful that her ailing father will be drafted into the Chinese military, Mulan (Ming-Na Wen) takes his spot -- though, as a girl living under a patriarchal regime, she is technically unqualified to serve. She cleverly impersonates a man and goes off to train with fellow recruits. Accompanied by her dragon, Mushu (Eddie Murphy), she uses her smarts to help ward off a Hun invasion, falling in love with a dashing captain along the way.

Mulan marks a sumptuous return to top form, and it can stand comparison with anything done in the classic era of Disney animation. Back then, Snow White dreamed that some day her prince would come. Today, the prince would not find Mulan waiting for him. Go to Full Review

Mulan is beautiful. It soars, laughs and cries. It's as delicate as a late-blooming cherry blossom and as solid as the Great Wall of China. Go to Full Review

Ash P @AshParth 4d With that said, I still enjoyed this movie as an adult as I had as a kid. Sure, my thoughts were different due to age. Except it doesn't matter much since I still enjoyed this movie for how it was choreographed, animated, and acted. Is it up there as my top six? No. Still, it is in the top twelve if I were to rank my favorite Disney original movies. It is an appropriate movie to show that even women could do what men could do, especially with what the time period was like back then. That's coming from a man like myself, by the way. I will be giving the legend of Fa Mulan eight Mulan sitting on top of the column with pride after retrieving the arrow that was struck up top out of ten. 8/10. As a child raised in the United States, Mulan was one of my first introductions to China. Now, as an adult living in China, I can say that some of the details they have captured are incredible. They background art of this movie is a lovely nod to traditional Chinese artwork. The idea of honor and respect fun deep here in China. Details aside, Mulan is a beautiful inspiration. Teaching us to do what is right, not just what is expected of us. The music is beautiful, catchy songs paired with superb animation. 10 out of 10!
