Fearful that her ailing father will be drafted into the Chinese military, Mulan (Ming-Na Wen) takes his spot -- though, as a girl living under a patriarchal regime, she is technically unqualified to serve. She cleverly impersonates a man and goes off to train with fellow recruits. Accompanied by her dragon, Mushu (Eddie Murphy), she uses her smarts to help ward off a Hun invasion, falling in love with a dashing captain along the way.

Desmond Ryan Philadelphia Inquirer Mulan marks a sumptuous return to top form, and it can stand comparison with anything done in the classic era of Disney animation. Back then, Snow White dreamed that some day her prince would come. Today, the prince would not find Mulan waiting for him. Rated: 4/4 Dec 20, 2024 Full Review Jeff Strickler Minneapolis Star Tribune The color palette is stunning, the attention to detail exquisite and the merger of computer-animated epic scenes with intricate, hand-drawn passages is seamless. Rated: 4.5/5 Dec 20, 2024 Full Review Jami Bernard New York Daily News It features exquisite, silky backgrounds and enough action, romance and silly stuff for all ages and genders. Rated: 4/4 Dec 20, 2024 Full Review Donald Munro Fresno Bee Mulan is beautiful. It soars, laughs and cries. It's as delicate as a late-blooming cherry blossom and as solid as the Great Wall of China. Rated: A Dec 20, 2024 Full Review Dennis King Tulsa World This lovely, energetic and painterly film, based on an ages-old Chinese legend about a young warrior heroine, is one that achieves a nearly perfect blending of elements -- adventure, romance, comedy, music and art -- that define the genre. Rated: 4/4 Dec 20, 2024 Full Review Steve Persall Tampa Bay Times When you see the Walt Disney Pictures animation wizards working near the top of their game like this, you wonder why any other studio ever tries to muscle into their territory. K G A stunning tale originated from the House or Mouse set in Ancient China. I was impressed by so many parts of it, from th3 start, such as environments & backgrounds looking more than 2 dimensional, more realistic like this was more like a 3D cinema experience of the 20th century. The soundtrack has been put to great usage with a song using Chinese instruments for the song where Mulan reflects about her true passion being bottled up just to impress her family Fa & the very dramatic music portraying anybody/Mulan was in danger. Remember when a parent made sacrifices for their child? And when an adult must do things for their old parent(s)? Well, this is Mulan - to keep her father* safe, she was the girl going to war with the men around her with the blending in to the be like those niche men around her. Before he was Donkey in Shrek, Eddie Murphy was Mulan's supportive little sidekick, Mushu who was funny, Eddie Murphy tends to be funny. He made a nice Sleeping Beauty reference. I even saw that PJs in ancient China were like the casual ones we wore today. People will love for its feminism & that it is set in a foreign country, at a time where Disney made did these diverse concepts without it being kinda forced like it is these days. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/04/25 Full Review Ryan U great story highly recommend Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/06/25 Full Review Nicholas B Mulan is a strong four-star animated film that I really enjoyed. With its inspiring story, memorable characters, and epic action, it delivers a powerful and engaging experience. Mulan’s journey of bravery and self-discovery is compelling, and the film’s blend of humor, heart, and stunning animation makes it a standout Disney classic. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/25/25 Full Review Kaden D I wish they wrote movies/ female characters like this. An amazing movie with great characters, songs, jokes, and more. 100% recommend this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/23/25 Full Review J M This is by far the worst movie of the Disney renaissance. Both the story and its lead are terribly boring. It’s unfortunate, because the legend itself is quite interesting. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/20/25 Full Review Read all reviews
