Liz Kocan Decider Murdaugh Murders is a passable Lifetime movie that’s a part of its Ripped From The Headlines series: perhaps if the headlines hadn’t already told us SO much about the Murdaughs, it might be more intriguing. Oct 20, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Bryant C A great retelling of the incident and the murders that happened in my tri county area , I'm from Charleston SC, and we've all heard of these murders and this family . Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/29/24 Full Review Badd H Storyline ripped from the headlines. Bill Pullman’s acting is incredible, I am not sure many other actors could pull off the role. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/03/24 Full Review Larry T I’m not a fan of Lifetime’s approach to moviemaking. They seem to have a preference for lurid, cheap-looking productions. However, I have to give Murdaugh Murders a high rating, mainly for Bill Pullman’s mastery of the role. Yes, we only recently watched tons of media coverage of the trial, but seeing it portrayed in a concise way, start-to-finish, brought a coherency to a long, weird saga. Sets and writing helped support a capable telling of this engrossing story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/20/24 Full Review KeErica W The acting my Bill Pullman was very good ! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/24 Full Review Nancy K The dialog is very realistic supported by great acting by everyone. Far above the average made-for-tv movie or any other kind of movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/24 Full Review J A The movie is not quite awful. It oversimplifies a longer and more complex story in a way that a good network (e.g., BBC) would not do. If necessary to fit the story into allotted time, you need to allow more time. Also, as a result, people shout or shriek conclusions without buildup or motivation. The dialogue is like off of somebody's checklist. The actors were apparently told to sound "Southern," and so they sound like they're from Tennessee. People in low-country South Carolina talk very differently. The exception somewhat is when the trial starts. A trial of many days is condensed to a few days, but they capture some important questions and answers, verbatim I think. Pullman delivers the trial persona of Alex Murdaugh pretty well. The judge's admonition to Murdaugh at sentencing was on par with Shakespeare, and they quote it, although not with the gravitas and articulation of the real Judge Newman. (Viewers should seek out and watch the real Judge Newman's delivery of Alex Murdaugh's sentence. It is brief, chilling and exactly what needed to be said.) Nevertheless, if you want the story, read the news accounts and watch video of the trial. You get a Cliff Notes abridgement from this movie. You won't get a real understanding of this incredibly bizarre-but-real combination of the multitude of bizarre-but-real Alex Murdaugh storylines from this movie.
