      Critics Consensus

Although it'll be too quirky for some, Murder, Anyone? is a deeply meta comedy that also serves as an affecting homage.

Thom G Cleverly written, funny, offbeat, and entertaining, Murder Anyone? is filled with subtext, film references, and reflections on the film and theater media and industry. It plays with several meta perspectives in a boldly and refreshingly new manner. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review D.S P LOVED this movie - its so funny!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/26/24 Full Review ELB S I watched about 2/3 of 'Murder, Anyone?' waiting for the 90% score to kick in. I realized chances were slim it was going to suddenly become anything like a good movie and bailed. I remember reading a review of 'The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes' that said (I'm paraphrasing) 'Self-conscious camp is the lowest form of comedy possible.' That is exactly how I felt about this: self-conscious camp. It is neither smart nor inventive, neither funny nor scary. This movie misses every possible mark it sets out to pin. I am a fan of art that is self-aware, if it is done well. 'Movie Movie' from 1978 falls into that camp (oh how I wish it were available to stream) and the music show 'The Drowsy Chaperone' is an absolute meta joy. The only thing 'Murder Anyone' has going for it is ... well, I actually can't think of anything. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/01/23 Full Review dave d Fun until it wasn't, Murder, Everyone.. errr Murder, Anyone is a hot mess. I laughed a lot and was having a good time, but there is a major switch in gear that just lost me and took me out of the film. The picture is very self aware and that may work for some, but when things go over the top, I was outski! A movie within a play within a play oh just forget it. Final Score: 5/10 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/12/23 Full Review Courtney K gosh... this has such good reviews from everyone else... i just wasn't into it.
