Alana R It's a mixed bag. Charlotte Rampling is devastating on camera, and as a cool, in control therapist whose patients seem to be dying unaccountably. London police send their detective, played by Trevor Eve, to investigate, & it seems that the tec is taken with the lovely Charlotte. Enter Charlotte's daughter, Fern, who is jealous of her mom's effect upon me, who tries to seduce the tec. Meanwhile, the hold Charlotte seems to exert upon all she comes across bursts into view via one erotic massage. It's laughable: a hardened detective falls under the spell of the seductress, while he's got a wife and mistress at home, both unhappy, both seemingly unfulfilled. But the vampiric Rampling has her way, and we wonder: what next? We see Rampling go to her own therapist, the inimitable Anna Massey, who seems to see through Rampling's ruse that she's "coming about a patient", and points to Rampling's emotional deficiency, and ethical lack of scruple. Then all hell seems to break loose when Eve leaves both wife and mistress, quits his job, and ...no, I can't reveal the end, but it's just pretentious and much too easy. Visually, I enjoyed it, but it's empty, unsatisfying, and a bit pretentious. Watch if you have some time to kill, but don't expect much. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews
