Pauline Kael The New Yorker Orient Express is strictly an actors' showcase, and some of the performers have such assured technique that you begin to grin each time you see them. Sep 27, 2023 Full Review Jay Cocks TIME Magazine The idea is that everything will be more interesting if Sean Connery or Ingrid Bergman, rather than the characters they play, is suspected of having committed the foul deed. The device does not work, despite the [actors'] occasionally droll efforts. Nov 9, 2017 Full Review Variety Staff Variety Agatha Christie's 1934 Hercule Poirot novel has been filmed for the first time in a bygone film style as it seems to be some treasure out of a time capsule. Mar 26, 2009 Full Review James Kendrick Q Network Film Desk Agatha Christie’s works had been and would be filmed many times over, but Lumet’s Murder on the Orient Express, despite being quite a ways out of his wheelhouse, remains one of the genre’s classics. Rated: 3.5/4 Nov 22, 2024 Full Review Joseph Tomastik Loud and Clear Reviews It tells its classic story reasonably well, anchored by a loveable lead performance and a rustic old-school feel. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 6, 2024 Full Review Josh Larsen LarsenOnFilm ... awfully turgid. Rated: 2/4 Sep 22, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Glafira Regina O A weak film, even for the '70s. Poirot resembles more of a cop from modern TV series, there are no special effects, and the rest of the actors are mediocre. Too many effects and dramatic music, and the attempt at luxury-class definitely falls short. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/22/24 Full Review Rami A It's fun. Bit slow, but fun. I feel like the performances outweigh the story and the film in general. This is not Sidney Lument's best film, though. He's made better pictures. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/15/24 Full Review Alexander V Murder on the Orient Express directed by Sidney Lumet is arguably and easily his worse movie where there is no 'directing' as such as the actors all do their own thing yet without any input or conviction as they mostly come acrooss as bored with the proceedings both over acting and under acting at the same time. Only Redgrave and Widmark come across as believable and realable. Finlny is far too camp and cartoonish and over-the-top making him too comic as if this was Carry On The Orient Express. Connery comes across as obvioulsy disinterested in playing the part and has golldenish-red lipstick which simply looks so absurd. aAfter his superb and powerful performance in The Hill directed again by Lumet, this is ham acting. Perkins is too psycho. York and Bissett are cardboard. Gielgud is Gielgud who could never act to save his life. The lighting is over-lit throughout which complete negates any sense of brooding mystery: it is in your face even in the scenes where there is darkness there is too much light and bad lighting can ruin a film but critics never seem to look at light. Rotten Tomatoes reviewers always give films a high rate score when they have a huge international cast of very famous actors no matter how awful the film is as they feel obliged to do so and even Roger Ebert gave this awful movie high praise. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/20/24 Full Review Frank B This just gets better with every watch...awesome cast...I didn't think I was going to like it but love it. One of the few films I like to watch again and again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/20/24 Full Review Nick S I liked it for the most part. It's much more faithful to the books and geography than the 2017 version but it still has some significant and non-sensical changes. I love seeing Sean Connery, definitely wasn't expecting him in such a small role. My only real gripe is that I didn't care about the Poirot portrayal. He was too gritty and aggressive, not charming or quirky enough. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/24 Full Review Brett C I now know Kenneth Branagh has no sense of humour Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/14/24 Full Review Read all reviews
