Impressively constructed from home movie clips and audio recordings, Must Read After My Death is both searing and intimate.

Audience Member must read after my death Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member I was expecting so much more. It's basically dirty laundry from a 60's family. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Morgan Dews took his grandmothers audio recordings and home movies to make a stark documentary about his grandparents relationship with each other and their children. Charley & Allis used Dictaphone recorders to stay in touch since Charley spent a large chunk of time in Australia for business and all the family's dirty laundry is recorded. Dews does a great job of combining these audio & video recordings to give the viewer a voyeuristic look at a family falling apart. You get a sense of the state of family therapy at the time by listening to Allis talk about the advice that psychiatrists are giving her. If you are like me and don't live in NYC or LA, this movie is available online (via Gigantic Digital) if you don't want to wait for the DVD. ( Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member The struggle of a suburban American family is documented in hundreds of hours of audio recordings, letters done by the family themselves. Their infidelities, hatreds and failures are all there to be seen. Credit to Dews for the construction of these materials, as he is family, his personal knowledge of what went on allowed him to create a truly heartbreaking portrait. In some ways this is similar to the documentary "Tarnation" which was released back in 2004 except that the declarations made by the people seem even more natural and at the same time so horribly wrong. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member ok.. but kinda confusing Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Fascinating and sad.
