Laurie S Apart from the silliness here are so many elements that are unbelievable that make this a not very good movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/18/24 Full Review Audience Member Very different, beautifully shot. Struggled with the tone to be honest... One minute very dark, serious and thoughtful, the next comic book like and ridiculous... But still, very compelling. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This had all the foundations for an excellent revenge flick. The act in question was a textbook call for vigilante justice and it is set in a seedy Hillbilly wonderland. Sadly. It didn't take advantage of all the joys that come with Redneck life and apart from a gimp slapping the stomach off himself while slashing his chest it just wasn't sleazy enough. The villain thinks he's a T-800 and although it has some good stuff going and is stylish, it is just a bland story that plays out with echoes of Blue Ruin and The Great Silence. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Keeps you into the movie from start to end Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Gritty, edgy with interesting characters Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Though a bit rough around the edges, with very good performances alongside mediocre ones, My Father Die is a good film. Visually arresting at times, with exceptional narration by the protagonist as a child, this film manages the difficult trick of mixing the lyrical with the violent without coming across as ludicrous. I recommend it to anyone who appreciates cinema and loves genre movies. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter Strong performances and stunning visuals aren't enough to compensate for the strained Southern Gothic artificiality. Jan 27, 2017 Full Review Nick Schager Village Voice My Father Die may boast a bizarrely graceless title, but that's the least of this revenge saga's shortcomings, which number in the dozens and conspire to make it an early contender for worst of 2017. Jan 25, 2017 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times "My Father Die" is a trashy jewel. As with the Rubens painting of Saturn devouring one of his sons that punctuates certain scenes, you kind of can't stop looking at it. Jan 19, 2017 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed My Father Die is one of those films that is fascinating to watch with a story that runs deep and characters that are miserable yet trying to reach for goals that may be unattainable or illogical. Rated: 4/5 Apr 18, 2020 Full Review Joey Keogh Wicked Horror Unfortunately, there's not much of a story here outside of the ill-advised revenge plot we've seen a million times over. Rated: 4/10 Oct 8, 2019 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film It's a visionary work that bespeaks a rare talent, and a token, one hopes, of exciting things to come.
