The film wisely resists the standard documentary technique of stringing together a series of talking heads - no small temptation, given the famous people rounded up for reminiscing. Go to Full Review

The enduring mystery of what Michael Caine is thinking and feeling remains intact during his watchable, if somewhat exasperating docu-reminiscence of 1960s swinging London. Go to Full Review

It was more than the flowering of a music scene, it was a cultural sea-change... a younger generation overwhelmed their elders and defied their conventions. Go to Full Review

Not terribly in-depth, My Generation is more about nostalgia for the '60s, rather than the detail... Still, it's well put together and an easy watch. Go to Full Review

Most of My Generation is engagingly told and Caine is a charming host but it often feels more like the nostalgic musings for a long ago time than insightful commentary. Go to Full Review

12/20/2020 One of the best documentaries I've ever watched. Pity I missed the 60s by just a few years. See more hip C @hipCRANK 10/03/2018 YEAH BABY! Turns out the crumbling of crusty upper class Britain was engineered by a bunch of long haired art hooligans who made dreary old London swing with a rainbow of colours. And who better to flashback to the mid-sixties than Michael Caine? Don't answer that, just see the movie. With a bevy of jovial [off screen] interviews, Caine reminisces revolution with old pals McCartney, Daltrey, Twiggy and Marianne. The stories are great, and we are treated to some great era footage, but it all rests on Caine's ample shoulders. As a Cockney in a princely movie industry, he helped usher in the working class bloke as a screen presence. A significant moment, aligned with the rock and roll explosion, contemporary art and fashion waves, it signalled a way out of the stodgy career paths previously devoid of any detours. More of a history lesson than exploitation flick, a classy bit of cinema this. - hipCRANK See more Alan W 08/23/2018 Watching My Generation *** is like spending a Sunday afternoon listening to your grandad reminiscing about his past, if he is Michael Caine. Aside from Caine's narration, there are interviews with other famous faces but you only hear their voices, as the whole film is made up of 60s stock footage with occasional cutaways to selected scenes from Caine's filmography, and an expensive soundtrack of greatest hits from the era. Surprisingly coherent in places even though it does meander to cover a lot of ground, this doesn't really tell you anything new or ground-breaking but it is sweet and comforting like that cup of tea you share with your grandad while you listen to him hum and dance along down memory lane.
