Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Cuartas is an astonishing talent for horror connoisseurs who like their films classy and textured. Rated: 3/4 Jul 9, 2021 Full Review Richard Whittaker Austin Chronicle In this rusted nowhere, options are truly limited, and writer/director Jonathan Cuartas leaves their story open-ended at the beginning. Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 25, 2021 Full Review Peter Sobczynski RogerEbert.com A grimly fascinating low-fi debut from writer/director Jonathan Cuartas. Rated: 3/4 Jun 25, 2021 Full Review Steve Morrissey Radio Times Shot in 20 days, with no special effects to speak off, and in rooms only murkily lit, it's atmospheric, spooky and intense. Plus, thanks to solid performances by Fugit, Schram and Campbell, it also works pretty well as a family drama. Rated: 4/5 Jan 24, 2024 Full Review Sharai Bohannon A Nightmare On Fierce Street Podcast It is definitely a yay for me. It's a hard one to market because it's a horror drama that's heavy on the drama. It's not the Transformers dancing that lots of audiences want, instead, it's closer to Issa López's Tigers Are Not Afraid. Aug 14, 2023 Full Review Kate Sánchez But Why Tho? A Geek Community My Heart Can’t Beat Uness You Tell It To isn’t your typical vampire movie, and its cast manages to bring to life the horrific elements of family drama alongside a different take on vampirism. Adam B I was hoping for a different kind of movie. This just made me sad. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Audience Member One of the most realistic vampire movies everrr Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/07/24 Full Review Les N Depressing. Horribly depressing. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/06/24 Full Review Sharpsteen S Just watched this as part of an attempt to see 31 horror movies in 31 days. Lots of folks giving this a very low score and calling it boring. It is highly probable those folks didn't read any reviews or watch the trailer before watching. This is a different kind of horror drama in that it is slow, brooding, claustrophobic, and existential. There are quite a few moments of dread and foreboding, and a lot of moments that are profoundly sad, but nothing that will scare a seasoned horror movie fan or get their blood pumping (pun intended). This is a movie for a rainy afternoon to encourage a sad and thoughtful mood, and a meditation on obligation and loneliness. Worth watching if that sounds interesting. But please avoid it if it was sold to you as a "vampire" movie, it is unlike most other vampire movies out there. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review Hugo S Thomas suffers from a terrifying disease: vampirism. His older siblings keep him alive at the cost of their victims' sacrifice. Bound by blood, the family ties fall apart when each subsequent murder becomes more and more devastating. "My Heart Can't Beat Unless You Tell It To" presents us with an original vampire story, compelling viewers to debate controversial survival choices. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review Elise L Outstanding, subdued, well acted and crafted and all of that with a small budget. It tackles family as the monster that keeps you safe and sheltered (but also in a prison made of love), solitude and even living at the outskirts of humanity. Bleak, sure, but some of the viewers need to interrogate themselves about how they deal with others' illnesses and struggles.
