After several years away, FBI agent Henry Durand (Colin Hanks) returns to find his mother, Marty (Meg Ryan), a much different person: Having long mourned for Henry's father, she is now embracing single life. One day, while Marty, Henry and his new fiancée, Emily (Selma Blair), are out for a walk, they meet Tommy (Antonio Banderas), a mysterious stranger, with whom Marty then becomes involved. I think it's a movie that people have watched. Meg Ryan's character is laughable in an unhumorous way, with no character development. It's like watching that girl on TikTok pretend to each a sandwich. The fat suit is ridiculous even for 2008 standards, and the whole time you can tell Meg Ryan isn't actually doing things, she is just pretending to do stuff. the writing is terrible, it's like my thoughts when I'm stoned, and the passing makes no sense. everyone just needed a paycheck from this movie.

Lame, over-reliant on flatly impossible situations exacerbating Hanks' character's supposed Oedipal leanings. That's really the only joke here, so it is repeated over and over and over, and it wasn't very funny the first couple times. Selma Blair is engaging as ever, but sadly underutilized. She's barely in the movie.

This is a very good comedy. Most reviewers slammed it, but I enjoyed it. I suggest potential viewers not blindly follow the bad reviews, watch for yourselves.

It's not super complicated, plot wise, but it has these little cute funny things that make it worth watching. It's from 2008, so if you like movies of this genre, just give it a shot one day. You might enjoy it.
