Owen Gleiberman Entertainment Weekly Rated: C+ Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times It is likely that no one, not even Pagnol, had a childhood quite this perfect, and yet all happy childhoods grow happier in memory, and it is the nature of film that we can share some of Pagnol's happiness. Rated: 4/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Marjorie Baumgarten Austin Chronicle Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Lovely and delicate. Rated: 3.5/4 Dec 10, 2023 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) This is very moving, even if the film drags a bit along the way, it arrives at its end in optimal condition. Audience Member Pure escapism and delightful to boot. The costumes, scenery, set, music lighting are gorgeous and the gentle plot glides like a butter knife. No need for CGI, people going 'OMG' every few seconds, car chases - just a sweet film that cradles you throughout. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Oddly enough I found this preferable to La Gloire de Mon Pere. It's an impressive feat for a film with, to be honest, not very much plot, to be enjoyable and meaningful nonetheless. The final scene, with the guard's come-uppance from the lock-keepers, is extremely funny. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member La aussi je sais que ca casse le rythme mais bon... j'aime ces films tres simples et legers et en meme temps porteurs d'emotions Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautiful scenery.....and French childhood memories. A charming film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Nice nostalgic look at a French family in the early 20th century. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Part too of a wonderful film. I always balled like a baby at the end... it might be a sad ending but it is also the real story of Marcel Pagnol. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
