a tragic and awesome story, filled with the eternal hope and longing of a better life while staring down the mounting challenges that seem to persist. The acting is spectacular, crafting characters that are noble, flawed, sympathetic, and vulnerable.

Excellent performance by Vincen...err I mean Song Joon-ki. This film deserves to be viewed. The romantic subplot was an unnecessary distraction. The screenwriter and director ruined Song's chance at a breakthrough film role, outside of his devoted Asian and K-drama audience. His performance was at least nomination-worthy otherwise. Don't worry Joon-ki there is more out there for you.
