Somewhere in South America, May 1960, just after Israel's abduction of Adolf Eichmann in Argentina. Polsky, a lonely and grumpy Holocaust survivor, lives in the remote countryside. He spends his days playing chess and tending his beloved rosebushes. One day, when a mysterious old German man moves in next-door, he suspects that his new neighbor is... Adolf Hitler. Since nobody believes him, he embarks on a detective mission to find the evidence. But, in order to gather evidence, he will need to be closer to his neighbor than he would like. So close that the two could almost become friends.

It’s still sometimes nice to be reminded of how much value a talented ham like Kier can be, like when he wiggles his shoulders as Herzog teases Polsky about Kastenbrunner’s sex appeal. ... the rest of the joke could stand a little workshopping. Go to Full Review

The film at once wrings this premise for whimsical absurdism and slow-burn suspense, on each side vulgarizing the memory of the Holocaust. Go to Full Review

The highly uneven film awkwardly tries to layer its broad caper comedy with sentiment, without sufficient emotional depth. Go to Full Review

Both actors do their best to keep the story on track, but a Grumpy Old Men quality seems misplaced, and the screenplay becomes increasingly implausible. Go to Full Review

jesse v Jan 14 This could have been a 48 minute animated special instead, with more characters and more world building. Why even pick Spain of all places? See more ruth ann b Jan 10 Powerful story about an obsession incredible acting See more Luiz S @LUIZSAN Jan 22 Excelente filme. Vale a pena ver. See more Cyns Corner Nov 17 My Neighbor Adolf is one of those small films that sneaks up on you. What starts as a quirky "my neighbor might be Hitler" premise turns into something surprisingly tender — funny at times, heartbreaking at others, and never heavy-handed. The film balances grief, humor, paranoia, and unexpected humanity in a way that kept me guessing all the way to its bittersweet, perfectly fitting ending. It’s short, well-paced, and absolutely worth watching. Video review: https://youtu.be/xOjpzlKmum0 See more João Pedro F @ChicoGunha Aug 24 It’s a film worth watching. The narrative draws us in by exploring how far emotions like hatred, anger, sadness, and regret can take a person, leaving the audience with a lot to reflect on. David Hayman’s performance is simply moving: he conveys exactly what the character Mr. Polsky, well crafted by Dmitry Malinsky and Leon Prudovsky, seems to feel. The film also delivers truly emotional scenes. Udo Kier also gave himself completely to the role; you can feel Mr. Herzog’s loneliness just through his gaze, perhaps even a hint of regret? Overall, the film deserves three and a half stars due to its inconsistency, which sometimes makes you question how much of it really makes sense. See more Bruno S @brunostorchi 01/15/2025 Much better than it had the right to be. So much more than what you would expect by watching the trailer… Unmissable movie with comedic moments, some drama, and a lot of heart. See more Read all reviews
