Dave Golder Radio Times What's left is a rather humdrum thriller, with a thin plot and overwrought performances. Rated: 2/5 Feb 20, 2024 Full Review Rebecca Johnson Film Focus Online The highlight of My Son is easily its acting. Though many may see McAvoy's improvised performance as a gimmick, he stole the show and created a character worth rooting for. Rated: 3/5 Jul 27, 2023 Full Review Whang Yee Ling The Straits Times (Singapore) Pity McAvoy, who was left to improvise. Rated: 2/5 Jun 9, 2022 Full Review Chris Wasser Sunday Independent (Ireland) It's a thinly plotted affair, because it needs to be, and its narrative shortcomings eventually spoil the fun. Rated: 3/5 Jan 27, 2022 Full Review Deirdre Molumby entertainment.ie For all its solid ingredients, the final formula of My Son is let down by a wandering script. You end up with this jumbled up mess of a movie that goes from harrowing, sincere drama to over-the-top revenge thriller. It just doesn't sit right. Rated: 2.5/5 Jan 17, 2022 Full Review Gregory Wakeman The National (UAE) My Son is ultimately too lightweight and simply-plotted to be anything more than intriguing. Jarvis W Worth a watch. Story is decent but is really carried by the performance of James McAvoy. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/06/24 Full Review Rebecca Mair G I loved the cast and the acting and I was thoroughly enjoying the film over half way through, but towards the end the story goes off on a random story that makes no sense, so many unanswered questions and not a fully closed ending, and not in a good way. Could have been so much better unfortunately! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/10/24 Full Review Matthew T Great cast - fine performance - but disaster of a plot - did the director loose control ? Inconsistencies and dead ends in the story line everywhere / why were the police withdrawn from the case? Why locate such a crime on a remote island - makes no sense or entertainment Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/02/24 Full Review Neal M I think James Mcavoy was very good and probably the only good thing about the film. The film itself had potential but but the execution was so bad, so many twists led nowhere and wernt explained. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/23/24 Full Review Will B Silent Witness esk this one. Thought this was a good film, lots of twists and turns. Boy gets kidnapped on a school trip and the mission to find the kidnappers is entertaining. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/28/24 Full Review Paul C Was left feeling like wheres the twist? Wheres the sting in the tail? but the credits roll and just felt like it could have been a true story with its real life dullness. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review Read all reviews
