For all its solid ingredients, the final formula of My Son is let down by a wandering script. You end up with this jumbled up mess of a movie that goes from harrowing, sincere drama to over-the-top revenge thriller. It just doesn't sit right.

This is a great rendition by James McAvoy, especially with there being no script and James was just given the plot to the movie and he improvised all his lines. A real movie achievement.

I loved the cast and the acting and I was thoroughly enjoying the film over half way through, but towards the end the story goes off on a random story that makes no sense, so many unanswered questions and not a fully closed ending, and not in a good way. Could have been so much better unfortunately!

Great cast - fine performance - but disaster of a plot - did the director loose control ? Inconsistencies and dead ends in the story line everywhere / why were the police withdrawn from the case? Why locate such a crime on a remote island - makes no sense or entertainment

I think James Mcavoy was very good and probably the only good thing about the film. The film itself had potential but but the execution was so bad, so many twists led nowhere and wernt explained.
