Critics Consensus

My Super Ex=Girlfriend is an only sporadically amusing spoof on the superhero genre that misses the mark with a nerd-turned-superwoman who embodies sexist clichés.

Ultimately, the star-power smoke screen withers, and you're left with a silly film, a couple of decent jokes, and an entirely too-predictable plot. Go to Full Review

For Ivan Reitman, Ghostbusters continues to cast one hell of a shadow. Shame - if he'd managed to resist the lure of big, shiny FX, this could have worked as a very black comedy... Go to Full Review

My Super Ex-Girlfriend never really takes off into comedic deep space, but it's not exactly earthbound, either. A lot of this is funny stuff -- honest. Summer movie comedy lovers might have a similar reaction. Go to Full Review

André C Aug 11 This is a Superman-inspired superhero movie. There are a lot of clichés but they were fine for its time. See more Anderson O @Platinum2027 Jan 4 My Super Ex-Girlfriend is a better Chick flick, than expected. Society wasn’t ready for this movie yet. Many of the performances are good for a rom-com about a female protagonist dealing with the stress of a normal life/superheroism and searching for the love of her life. Based on Supergirl , but grown up with adult problems and stress, this was at its time, the best superwoman movie. Uma Thurman , Luke Wilson and Anna Faris put on great range of performances. See more Bryan B @heybryan Dec 23 Is this a spoof? An homage? A comedy in a weird universe? It's all of these and none of these. If it picked one of those to be and committed to it this would have been 10x better. See more Adam R 11/21/2024 I grew up in the 90s and this comedy is right down my ally. Hillarious, touching, supperbly cast and acted. A comedy classic of its time, now shanted by the fun police...
