David M Great premise and interesting storytelling, loved it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/11/22 Full Review DOT Having to watch four scenarios of the same event got a little bit tiresome. And I thought the plot went a little too Hollywood with the sex in the third scenario. Can't we just have a good movie without that? The acting was very good the accuracy of the event strayed somewhat but overall it was good to stir peoples' interest in Meriwether Lewis and this historical event. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/18/22 Full Review Jessie B I have spent too many years of my life and too much money studying the CoD and Meriwether Lewis in particular. Sadly, I was expecting more from this movie. Historically, it is lacking. While we don't have much in the way of hard facts on his last days, this movie seems to forget some that we do have. However, it does do well at showing how questionable the situation was. I will give it that. There are points that bring me back to when I first read about the strange death of Lewis. Even after all this time, I cannot say what I think happened that night/morning. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/25/23 Full Review Kim C Interesting look at the story of Lewis' death, which evolved through the years as evidence was uncovered. The relationship between Lewis and his dog Seaman is featured prominently, and the dog is fabulous too! Enjoy. :-) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/10/23 Full Review Robert H As a history buff and after watching this disaster for almost two hour; all I have to say is; thanks for nothing. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Stephanie A I knew going in that this would be a low-budget speciation on how Meriwether Lewis died. While I am no expert, I could tell that efforts were made at authenticity in terms of costuming and setting, which I appreciated. Were some of the hairstyles a little off? (I'm looking at you and your bangs, Mrs. Grinder.) Very possibly. Was Lewis's famous and beloved Newfoundland dog played by some sort of scrappy border collie? Yes. But, overall, the set design and casting were fine. The dialogue, on the other hand, was a bit cringey at times, and the delivery by Lewis was overly fast—perhaps intended to convey mania? The motives of the many sketchy characters are murky at best. The movie is unrated, but it would probably receive a rating of R or a strong PG-13 for sexual content in one of the fictionalized versions of the story. The concept of the movie is interesting, as historians have debated how Lewis died for two centuries now, but the organization of their telling is lacking. This film has been compared to Kurosawa's Rashomon, but unfortunately it doesn't live up to its predecessor in terms of storytelling, and grows repetitive towards the end. Still, I commend the writer/director for tackling a fascinating bit of history and sharing it with the world. The vision was there, it just struggled a bit in the follow-through. Alan Ng Film Threat If you want history and the feel of what a criminal investigation was like not so long after the birth of this nation, then you’ll find it in spades here. Rated: 6.5/10 Sep 8, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
