Dave Kehr Chicago Tribune It's 85 minutes of pure, breathless pleasure. The eternally oblivious Drebin, played with growing relish by a reborn Leslie Nielsen, now seems firmly entrenched as one of the great comic creations of American movies. Rated: 3.5/4 Jul 23, 2025 Full Review Craig MacInnis Toronto Star It is merely stating the obvious to say that The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear is the most important movie of the year -- and also the most excellent. Rated: 4.5/5 Jul 23, 2025 Full Review Carrie Rickey Philadelphia Inquirer How funny is it? I'm snickering too hard to answer. Not only does David Zucker's preposterously silly film stoop to new comic lows to get you to laugh, it even does the limbo. And cha-chas, too. With arms akimbo and legs splayed. Rated: 3/4 Jul 23, 2025 Full Review Sebastian Zavala Kahn Me gusta el cine It's the second part that I find most consistently funny, and the one with the best third act. Instead of fizzling out at the end, "The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear" concludes hilariously and quickly. [Full review in Spanish]. Rated: 4.5/5 Jul 30, 2025 Full Review Gary Thompson Philadelphia Daily News It's all fairly ridiculous, and fairly entertaining. There's no getting around the fact, however, that Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker have lost a bit of their collective touch. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 23, 2025 Full Review Stephen Hunter Baltimore Sun It's about half as funny as the original Naked Gun, but that nevertheless makes it one of the funniest movies of the year. Kári Leó Ó I find this pretty underrated and in my opinion it´s kinda better then the first one I find this funnier then the first one Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/12/25 Full Review Mike V If you see only one movie this year... you ought to get out more often. The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear is a 1991 American crime comedy film 🍿 Lots more laughs and fun… It’s very good! 😀 I’d definitely recommend it 👍🏼 Bumbling lieutenant Frank Drebin is out to foil the big boys in the energy industry, who intend to suppress technology that will put them out of business. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/11/25 Full Review Oz S The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear is a delightful and silly parody that delivers plenty of laughs, carried by Leslie Nielsen’s impeccable deadpan humor. The film has several truly iconic moments that have aged surprisingly well, showing why it remains a cult favorite in the spoof genre. Its slapstick gags and absurd dialogue hit the right notes for fans of lighthearted, over-the-top comedy. The pacing is undeniably slower compared to modern comedies, but that’s part of its charm, it reflects the style and rhythm of early ’90s filmmaking, where jokes could breathe and visual gags lingered. While not every joke lands perfectly, the overall tone and comedic timing make it a very entertaining watch. It doesn’t try to be overly clever or deep, and that’s exactly the point: it embraces ridiculousness wholeheartedly. If you enjoy parody films with a vintage vibe, this one’s worth revisiting. Overall, a fun, nostalgic comedy experience. 6/10 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/11/25 Full Review Joshua H It may not reach the heights of the original and I personally don't think all the comedy landed but this was still a really fun time that made me laugh. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/08/25 Full Review Amirtaha N Leslie Nielsen was perfect in the first one, but somehow he's even better here; his comedic timing is truly an all-timer. The jokes really land and the balance of comedy and the detective/police stuff is handled very meticulously and with precision and is exactly what I wanted the first film to do but sort of failed. A great sequel and what a naked gun movie should be Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/08/25 Full Review Mate P The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear is far from its predecessor, but it's still lot of fun. The writing is not really good. The characters are the same, which is good, but the dialogues are so unnatural. I couldn't help but notice. On top of that the line deliveries weren't good either, which would make a really bad movie if not for the jokes. The first half didn't deliver, but the second was pretty close to being as good as the first film. Although the themes are pushed in the audience's face, they were ahead of their time for sure. The directing isn't as good as it was in the first one. Much of the acting felt forced, so what I mean is that they used bad takes. They were probably rushed and didn't have time for more takes, but they would've definitely helped the movie. Because of the writing there are boring parts, so I wouldn't blame the editing. The acting as I said wasn't what I expected, even though I've seen this one plenty of times, especially the third act, which is undeniably the best part of the film. The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear could've been a really bad film if not for the intriguing and funny third act. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/06/25 Full Review Read all reviews
