Simon Abrams RogerEbert.com It’s a pleasure to watch such a poised and formally ambitious filmmaker simultaneously recall other formative modernists—Federico Fellini and Tsai Ming-liang both came to mind. Rated: 3.5/4 Feb 24, 2023 Full Review Anupama Chopra Film Companion In this film, little is explained and that is what makes it special. Jan 19, 2023 Full Review Lori C. Ready Steady Cut If you enjoy slow art-house cinema, you’ll probably like Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam. Some will love this feature, while others will find it’s a pretentious snooze-fest. Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 26, 2023 Full Review Jimmy Cage Jimmy Cage Movie Reviews (YouTube) Lijo Jose Pellissery’s films remain distinctive and intriguing. NANPAKAL NERATHU MAYAKKAM didn’t quite grab me, but it’s still a nice and formally strong little story about dreams and reality. Rated: 6/10 Mar 15, 2023 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation James, an ordinary, burly, middle-aged Malayam, has woken up as Sundaram, a long-missing husband and father now back at "home" in the Tamil Twilight Zone. Rated: 2.5/4 Feb 28, 2023 Full Review Anna M.M. Vetticad Firstpost Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam is not my favourite among Lijo’s works, but it is certainly amusing, thought-provoking and pleasantly low-key, a consistently engaging take on dissolving mind blocks and real-world divisions… Rated: 3/5 Jan 22, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Chandra S Whoever interested to watch world cinema, I can suggest this is one of them. You can watch this movie like just and day event and part of travelling with them before in the time of cellphone not introduced . Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/19/24 Full Review harshitac c One of the stupidest movies that I've ever watched, I had a huge expectation on this but turned out to be a 🤡 Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/04/24 Full Review Views Of C Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam - 10/10. Technically a Malayalam film, this movie has 90% of it in Tamil. And we have a brilliantly done magical realism film, utilizing the talents of Mammootty and Ramya Pandian in this understated film. This movie is shot so nicely, that it feels like a slice of life in this village. It just captures the essence of the people, surroundings, and the atmosphere, without having to shout and be loud about the vibe. Its one of those movies that makes you feel and understand the plight of the people in this odd and interesting situation, without having some annoying explanation scene. Its just a brilliant movie that makes you understand why Malayalam cinema is so good at making these types of dramas. Its not what is said, but what you feel, and that is what the essence and soul of this movie is and the main reason why this movie is so good! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/29/23 Full Review Abhishek K It's such a bland movie that it lacks numerous elements be it acting , story line , traction not at all . LJP might be an eminent director but this movie apparently is a big blow in a really bad way . The conveyance of the story is still revolving around some theories that ordinary audiences are having a hard time figuring it out leaving them perplexed in a terrible way . Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/21/23 Full Review Russel R Awesome creation & superb enacting by Mamooty Sir & the entire crew who made the movie to be so very realistic . Amazing performance 🎭 by the entire team of actors , actresses, directors, cameramen, old Tamil movie selections with appropriate perfection of dialogues & songs frm the black & white days & yo be executed into the present movie. Simply one of the best movie that I have ever seen in life. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/22/23 Full Review Ashwath S LJP's films are eccentric masterpieces, and though this one lives up to his quirky brand, it's unlike any of his previous works. I watched it on a lazy hot afternoon bellyful of biryani unplanned yet perfectly fitting. I had my grandparents and aunts complaining (when they weren't dozing) about the realistic yet for the most part static cinematography courtesy the always brilliant Theni Eashwar. After all for decades cinema meant nothing more than feature length soaps with 5 songs and 3 fights. Soon they began to grasp the relevance of the songs playing in the environment, character transformation subtleties, matter of fact humour that left them in splits, though still complaining why a man paired to Nayanthara would do a something like this. Well, only in Mollywood can a star lend his status and prowess to a script that wouldn't see the light of day without. All in all, a slumber that doesn't induce one...
