Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam - 10/10. Technically a Malayalam film, this movie has 90% of it in Tamil. And we have a brilliantly done magical realism film, utilizing the talents of Mammootty and Ramya Pandian in this understated film. This movie is shot so nicely, that it feels like a slice of life in this village. It just captures the essence of the people, surroundings, and the atmosphere, without having to shout and be loud about the vibe. Its one of those movies that makes you feel and understand the plight of the people in this odd and interesting situation, without having some annoying explanation scene. Its just a brilliant movie that makes you understand why Malayalam cinema is so good at making these types of dramas. Its not what is said, but what you feel, and that is what the essence and soul of this movie is and the main reason why this movie is so good!

It's such a bland movie that it lacks numerous elements be it acting , story line , traction not at all . LJP might be an eminent director but this movie apparently is a big blow in a really bad way . The conveyance of the story is still revolving around some theories that ordinary audiences are having a hard time figuring it out leaving them perplexed in a terrible way .

Awesome creation & superb enacting by Mamooty Sir & the entire crew who made the movie to be so very realistic . Amazing performance 🎭 by the entire team of actors , actresses, directors, cameramen, old Tamil movie selections with appropriate perfection of dialogues & songs frm the black & white days & yo be executed into the present movie. Simply one of the best movie that I have ever seen in life.

LJP's films are eccentric masterpieces, and though this one lives up to his quirky brand, it's unlike any of his previous works. I watched it on a lazy hot afternoon bellyful of biryani unplanned yet perfectly fitting. I had my grandparents and aunts complaining (when they weren't dozing) about the realistic yet for the most part static cinematography courtesy the always brilliant Theni Eashwar. After all for decades cinema meant nothing more than feature length soaps with 5 songs and 3 fights. Soon they began to grasp the relevance of the songs playing in the environment, character transformation subtleties, matter of fact humour that left them in splits, though still complaining why a man paired to Nayanthara would do a something like this. Well, only in Mollywood can a star lend his status and prowess to a script that wouldn't see the light of day without. All in all, a slumber that doesn't induce one...
