Charles Solomon Los Angeles Times As he did in the popular "Eden and the East" and "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex," writer-director Kenji Kamiyama tells a complicated tale without resorting to dull explanations or pat conclusions. Sep 7, 2017 Full Review George Art Baker Time Out You feel a warmth after watching it, as there's something in its depiction of imperfect, loving family relationships that stays with you. Rated: 4/5 Sep 5, 2017 Full Review John DeFore The Hollywood Reporter Though occasionally lopsided, the mix works well, and should play best to teens raised on Japanese 'toons. Sep 4, 2017 Full Review Grant Watson Fiction Machine The film ultimately felt a much messier and undisciplined affair than the opening set-up had suggested. Rated: 6/10 Oct 19, 2021 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed Napping Princess is an enjoyable, light animation film that has themes that could have easily become heavy but are presented in such a way that they are kid-friendly while not being boring for adults. Rated: 4/5 Apr 17, 2020 Full Review Ard Vijn ScreenAnarchy Kamiyama Kenji has made a very spectacular and entertaining picture here, in which he throws everything and the kitchen sink at the viewer. isla s This is a film with multiple plot lines, featuring numerous people/characters and so I found it a bit hard to keep track of things mid way through. I like the typically daydream aspect of it, a staple for many anime films. Its main theme, I'd say, would be identity. I liked that there's talk of apps and with the tablet present, it very much had the feel of being quite up to date. If anything its a bit science fiction, with a car (or motorbike?) creature that appears able to travel itself using a newly discovered form of sat nav, to the main characters delight. I liked the imagined land and while I got a bit lost in the details of what was going on, it was certainly entertaining. The real life situations were less interesting but the film is general was alright. A nice bit of imaginary fun, I suppose, as these films often are. I enjoyed it overall. But it is exciting and unique and fun. Well worth checking out for fans of anime.
