The drivers fight for position as they all try to be first to get the checkered flag and reach victory lane, as profiled in NASCAR 3D: The IMAX Experience. The IMAX® 3D camera is moved into position to capture the NASCAR driversÕ perspective for a behind-the-scenes look at this popular sport. Capturing all of the behind-the-scenes action of race day in the garages, the filmmakers are able to provide an insider's look into what it takes to put on an event of this magnitude. Director Simon Wincer (far left) along with director of photography James Niehouse (second from right) and team evaluate a shot from the middle of the 33 degree bank turn. The IMAX®3D camera, one of only 3 in the world, is positioned at the top of the stands in order to provide an overall perspective of what itÕs like to be at a race with more than 100,000 NASCAR fans. At speeds of up to 180 miles an hour, NASCAR 3D: The IMAX Experience provides a look into the heart-pumping experience of a NASCAR race and puts the audience behind the wheel of this preeminent sport. To catch the fast moving race cars, the production crew utilizes the Shotmaker, a sophisticated camera crane mounted on a truck platform which allows them to move, pan and truck with the action. Director Simon Wincer points the way to two members of the well-known Petty racing dynasty, Kyle and his father Richard. Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. share some racing tips as the crew from NASCAR 3D: The IMAX Experience capture an inside look into what it takes to be a part of this thrilling sport. The preparation prior to race day is extensive as the AOL #30 car crew re-builds the car and makes the necessary changes in order to have a shot at victory lane. Before the green flag is waved, the NASCAR 3D: The IMAX Experience production crew shoots the most colorful stars of race day. Golden Globe award winning actor Kiefer Sutherland lends his voice to the narration of NASCAR 3D: The IMAX Experience, racing into IMAX Theatres starting March 12, 2004.
