Audience Member Best Malaysian production ever... period Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie is funny. Hero Huang has to out-cook his nemesis in order to become the head chef at a restaurant. His nemesis is dating one of the co-owners, which does not bode well. The other co-owner is not quite in his right mind. After losing his job to the nemesis, he begins a slide toward the gutter. A Chinese lady brings him a package of nasi lamak (rice steamed in coconut milk, toppings and a thick sambal/chili sauce) and he is inspired. In his hero's quest across Malaysia he learns important lessons about cooking and life from the Naonyon (sp?), Tamil/Indian and Malay families that he visits, with hijinks along the way. Prepared and fortified, he faces his nemesis. There is plenty of cringe material for the woke Westerner: perhaps the road to racial reconciliation (Namewee's consistent goal in Malaysia) must travel a different path in Malaysia than it did here. Namewee is a polymath, more than competent as a musician, an actor and a producer. Despite severe budget constraints and government censorship, this movie had the best box office among Chinese Malaysian films. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member A great debut for the controversial Namewee. However, only local viewers may relate to the films themes and jokes.
