Sascha R 09/15/2024 Clever, biting social commentary that doesn't have a dull moment. Neal is at the height of his art yet the only one holding that auspicious position who remains devoid of any semblance self-aggrandisement or cockiness. This adds to his appeal as a witty commentator in my view - no strutting, or need to overact, just insightful dissection of all human BS, posturing, insecurities, greed etc. He stands on an unembellished stage and delivers thought-provoking laughs like machine gun fire. He's perhaps not a pure standup type comic, and his setups for his takes are a little toward the cringey, like he's just slightly behind the wave of what's edgy but within the context of the time. This special is Neal Brennan going back to his root. He reminds me of the guy that used to write and star on the Chappelle Show. Neal tackles mental health, sports, television, and other taboo subjects. His delivery is very funny. His structure and joke structure are very thoughtful and intelligent. He is a very funny stand up. This is his best special. He does have some gimmicks in here, which are visually funny but not necessary to enjoying the experience. I enjoyed it.
