Jeffrey P Well balanced western with a fairly original story that doesn't hold back much and isn't all that short on brutality. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/28/23 Full Review Bruce K Pretty routine western. Nothing really stood out about this movie. Though I did not how depressing it would be living there where the weather was constantly gray skies and wet. Did not see the sun the whole movie. "OK crew, shitty weather is in the forecast, it's show time". Back to the story. Been done many, many times before. Can't understand what all the high praise was for. Seen much, much better. All in all, not worthy of any award or best of nomination, but a good time waster. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/04/23 Full Review Drew L Damn good piece of film making. My mother's aunt's brother's nephew's wife's cousin was on the California trail and said this was a very accurate picture. She said Cusack did an amazing job he looks just like Dutch Albert and got all his mannerisms down. She also said Hirsch did a great job too and looks just like Patrick Tate and got him down pat too. Very accurate performances, almost like they knew the men. She said the story was how it happened and corroborates everything. They even filmed on location where it happened and made it look exactly like it was. Great job! The story is a bit dark, so be in the mood. The tension and the storytelling are great though. Overall a great movie to watch. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review Jeffrey E Great story telling. Acting was amazing. Just don't like how it ended, with out giving any spoilers, it leaves me asking what happened to him? Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/28/23 Full Review James B Very much in the style of Unforgiven, even though not quite as good, the movie flows at a steady pace, with solid acting, cinematography , and editing to help it along. Cusack is not very convincing as a cold blooded villain, but does okay for a supporting role. Be prepared for some heart wrenching scenes, both graphic and emotional. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/04/23 Full Review Brian R Emile Hirsch was great, John Cusack was not. Uncomfortable and suspenseful throughout in a good way, but also predictable and a little pointless at times. It had its moments but ultimately fell a little flat. I thought the visuals were well done, despite some overly dark scenes. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Donald Clarke Irish Times Impressively filthy, studded with convincing violence, the picture is very much in an established sub-genre. Rated: 4/5 Aug 24, 2019 Full Review Fionnuala Halligan Screen International Dark onscreen and pitch-black at its soul, Kavanagh's long-gestating Irish-Luxembourg co-production is a stripped-down story of the eternal battle between good and evil set within the confines of a classic oater. Jul 17, 2019 Full Review Rex Reed Observer It's too monstrous and mean-spirited to please everyone unconditionally, but I found it challenging and honest-and hair-raising enough to work as a modern morality tale in cowboy boots. Rated: 3.5/4 Mar 15, 2019 Full Review Rich Phippen Common Sense Media Violent Western has few positive messages and some language. Rated: 3/5 Feb 7, 2020 Full Review Rob Aldam Backseat Mafia The story itself is rather predictable and slightly derivative. However, this doesn't prevent it being an entertaining and engrossing western. Sep 23, 2019 Full Review Deirdre Molumby entertainment.ie Flawed but fresh with a highly impressive dramatic turn from John Cusack Rated: 3/5 Sep 3, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews
