Dana Stevens New York Times 11/10/2004

The first feature film by Bilge Ebiri, a New York Magazine film critic, is an unusual hybrid, a surreal 'cubicle comedy' that subtly morphs into a paranoid thriller. Go to Full Review

This is Ebiri's first feature after directing four shorts. He shows talent, but shouldn't give up his day job just yet. Go to Full Review
Ben Kenigsberg Village Voice 11/09/2004
From the co-workers' macho hazing rituals to the pseudo-arty gotcha ending, New Guy never quite locates a sensibility to call its own. Go to Full Review

Alas, the movie is less clever than its characters. Go to Full Review
Maitland McDonagh TV Guide 11/10/2004

Performances are solid and the washed-out, blue-tinged cinematography lends a sickish aura to the soul-eroding cubicles, offices and conference rooms that all too vividly evoke the mind-set of depressed wage slaves. Go to Full Review

05/14/2012 For something that I picked up for a laugh in my local Poundland, this movie turned out to be a rather pleasant surprise. It takes the theme of being ganged-up on by new colleagues and runs with it as far as it can go. While it's not going to win any Oscars any time soon, it's definitely worth a watch. See more 01/10/2011 I didn't have high expectations for this movie, but I actually quite enjoyed it for the most part. I'm a big fan of black comedy and this film fits into that category well. It's low budget and cheesy, but it's also just creepy enough, in a mundane way, that it kept me interested. I wish it had had a better ending, but overall I liked it. See more 08/22/2010 Like Office Space if it were directed by David Lynch. See more 08/15/2009 The movie is very unusual. What starts as a relatable office comedy ends as something completely inexplicable. I'm inclined to think the entire movie is a metaphor. See more Read all reviews
