I watched this on DVD recently. This could have been a rather dull story about the turnaround of a rundown factory, if it wasn't for the Minnesota setting and the quirky characters there, which reminded me of the Fargo movie. Renee Zellwegger plays Lucy, but I thought she struggled in this role which did not seem suite her. I liked the country music soundtrack, and I found the Minnesota scenery interesting. It's not a particularly bad movie, and it's pleasant enough to watch, but it's missing something unique and special to make it stand out.

I can be a cynical curmudgeon when it comes to romantic comedies, but this one is great. Familiar plot, but with very original writing, fine acting and humor. People who don't like New in Town don't like fun.

i LOVE any movie with Renée Zellweger-she doesn't 'act'....she becomes the character like no one else can and we need more family movies like this-makes you smile...get 'good chills' and takes me back to growing up in the 50's and 60's as in 'family' as it should be

Oh Renée how could you let them do this to you? Supposedly an up and coming exec, she heads to Minnesota without doing anything an intelligent person would do. She looks and acts like a buffoon. The other characters are overacting stereotypes with no charm. I had to turn it off about a third of the way thru as it was too embarrassing to watch. Totally cringeworthy!
