Audience Member A strange, and curious misfire from two of the biggest stars of the era. Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward star as two American's in Paris. Their first meeting doesn't go so well. But, later when Woodward covers her boyish looks and dons a blonde wig and heavy makeup, Newman falls for her, even though he doesn't realize it is the same person. He becomes fascinated by her so much that he writes articles about her for the newspaper. What kind of paper is this? The ending seems so far-fetched since the to characters had no bonding moment. The fantasy moments are also quite odd. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Really really didnt like it at all. Such a disappointment. And I really like so many more of Newman's movies! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review steve d The actors are far too talented for this. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Truly under-rated...a great Feminist farce. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member It is not a good movie, but the story set in the fashion world of early 1960's Paris can't help but be fun. And, the chemistry between Newman and Woodward is just charming in this goofy romp. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review panayiota k i can't believe i'm giving such a low rating for a Newman- Woodward movie (especially Joanne was delightful). Was it a comedy though? It was a romantic nothing. A womanizing dick meets a dynamic tomboy who doesn't want to change but then she does and they fall in love. James Powers Hollywood Reporter A New Kind of Love is actually the good old reliable kind of love, but served up in a chic, uninhibited farce that makes the eternal theme as sprightly as spring. Nov 1, 2019 Full Review Time Out [A] laboured, overdressed Parisian comedy. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Bosley Crowther New York Times Mr. Shavelson's quips are fast, contemporary and polished to a bright slickness but his story is obvious and thin and his principals belabor the obvious to little avail. Rated: 2.5/5 May 9, 2005 Full Review Judith Crist New York Herald Tribune Well, it's A New Kind of Love and an old kind of moviemaking and, my, my, but the rubes are supposed to wallow in it. Aug 15, 2022 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com The fourth onscreen teaming of Paul Newman and his wife Joanne Woodward is a thin, lame comedy, written and directed by Shavelson, which doesn't befit the caliber of their talents. Rated: C Nov 4, 2008 Full Review TV Guide Some sharp lines of dialog, a few too many camera tricks, and a general feeling of going-through-the-motions.
