John J. Puccio Movie Metropolis Even though it is not a great movie in and of itself, it had a clear influence on later films and television shows. Rated: 6/10 Jul 9, 2010 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Combustible Celluloid It's a richly layered and dense, yet compact movie that sadly loses a bit of its force in the final stretch. Biker B One of the best noir films made! It's a must see! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/25/23 Full Review Audience Member You can always do worse than a film noir featuring Richard Conte. He's the cool as ice eye candy for the ladies. For the male audience, there's a young Ann Bancroft; you'll be hard-pressed to believe this role is performed by the same actress who was the "older" seductress to a college grad just twelve years later. The blond who plays Iris, the young plaything for Broderick Crawford's mob boss character, isn't too tough on the eyes, either. You'll root for a happy ending with Conti and Bancroft escaping the inevitable train wreck ending; I'm sure I won't spoil it by mentioning that the production code wouldn't have permitted that. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/29/23 Full Review paul d New York Confidential is little gem of a film noir gangster movie, with a great cast of stars and supporting actors, an interesting plot, and a lot of character development in only 90 minutes. It gave me the impression of being original in ways that are well beyond its modest success, in 1955, with a number of style and plot elements that became standard in mafia movies for the next 50 years. In the hands of a more skilled director, with better scene transitions, plot changes and time accelerations, this could have been a great movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Moderate thumb-blob up. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Solid crime drama with an excellent cast including a very young and lovely Anne Bancroft. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member a very good crime noir movie from 1955,good noir lighting, story, and seeing New York City in neon lighting.
