Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Night of the Reaper is worth watching around Halloween but could have used a less twist-oriented screenplay to get the job done. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 25, 2025 Full Review Cole Groth FandomWire Night of the Reaper is the quintessential Shudder original; a fine, 90-minute distraction that offers just enough mystery and atmosphere to keep dedicated horror fans engaged. Rated: 6/10 Sep 29, 2025 Full Review Christian Toto HollywoodInToto.com Indie slasher grabs our attention until third-act twists dampen the fun. Rated: 3/4 Sep 24, 2025 Full Review Cheryl Eddy io9.com If the final reveals get a little too talky as Christensen hurries to explain all that’s come before, you have to appreciate the effort to fill in as many blanks as possible. Sep 24, 2025 Full Review Lee Zumpe Tampa Bay Newspapers Much like David Lynch ripped the idyllic façade off suburban life to reveal the dreadfulness and depravity beneath the surface, Christensen presents the viewer with a deceptive veneer that quickly bubbles and cracks. Sep 24, 2025 Full Review John Serba Decider Night of the Reaper’s stripped-down simplicity was its strength, but it wraps with a final act that’s so convoluted, it nukes itself. Mirza M 'Night of the Reaper' is a competent 80s throwback slasher that tries something unexpected with the routine formula. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/30/25 Full Review Patrick C An homage to horror films from the 80's, this finds Deena (Jessica Clement) returning to her hometown from college for the weekend when a local serial killer starts up again. I enjoyed the nostalgia of the film but I was very disappointed as it's a slasher film without the slashing. There were 2 previous murders by the killer before our main character enters the picture and even then, this is more of a detective story/finding out who the killer is without the killing spree to get the audience there. As such, it was a risk that didn't pay off in the end and the reveal was a letdown. More style than substance here. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/29/25 Full Review Jeremy W Genuinely scary, with a nerve wracking buildup of tension in the second act followed by a welcome release from terror in the third. Neatly done, simply plotted and very enjoyable movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/28/25 Full Review Gianna D. It was okay for what it is. Worst aspects in my opinion were the horrible dialogue and the audio quality made me feel like I was watching something dubbed. Hard to get immersed in the story for those reasons. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/28/25 Full Review Jason W This was fantastic. Great esthetic, amazing acting, stellar story and twist. Don't have much negative to say. Loved it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/28/25 Full Review K T This is an effective horror movie. The beginning is not that scary and almost a little cheesy. But don't let that fool you. It's just laying the groundwork for the twist that's coming. This is not a big budget horror movie, but the strong performances and smart direction make it effective. By the time Deena (Jessica Clement) is at the sheriff's house babysitting his kid, it gets downright scary. I nearly had to shut it off at one point in the third act, and I'm not easily spooked. I give this one a thumbs up. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/27/25 Full Review Read all reviews
