While working her first night shift at a remote motel, a young woman, Gwen Taylor (Phoebe Tonkin), begins to suspect that she is being followed by a dangerous character from her past. The only thing holding the film back is the final act. It’s relatively clever, but the only aspect of Night Shift that invites a greater analysis with some of the plot holes created for its payoff.

Great writing and performances, plus intentional lighting, music, and cinematography combine here to deliver a thriller that hits all the expected notes for a great late night scary movie (as other reviewers have called it) while avoiding or repurposing classic genre cliches. the story moves at a respectable pace while accommodating moments of unforced good humor running along with the tension. Phoebe Tonkin delivers a performance that’s convincing from the opening minute, and the supporting cast all own their key moments. make some popcorn, grab a blanket and someone to protect you from scaries, and enjoy.

Filming is ok, acting is not bad... but has a terrible script that's moved along only because of all the bad decisions the characters made. Theres a twist at the end and it's just terrible too. I love horror movies and this one didn't scare me a bit, actualy, it just pissed me off.

Having the motel be cabin based rather than all rooms based in one building worked really well as it offered a broader setting to the haunted motel/hotel sub-genre. The end works but is derivative and nothing new.

It started out good, had a promising plot, even if the acting wasn’t great. What made it a waste of time was the out of nowhere reveal that she was crazy and a killer.. and then just murders everyone? Even the girl she befriended? lol like all character development out the window. It would have been better to keep the killer as the man she thought it was and maybe she was seeing ghost. And then don’t get me started with her renovation of the motel, you wouldn’t get away with multiple murders and be able to just brush it aside…
