Variety Staff Variety Night Warning is a fine psychological horror film. May 21, 2020 Full Review Justin Stewart Film Comment Magazine Asher... directs with a meat-and-potatoes efficiency and visual sense, letting the casting, risk-taking performances, and the twisted, quirky screenplay carry the day. May 21, 2020 Full Review Kristen Lopez AwardsCircuit.com A kooky little 80s movie worth seeking out if you want to know what William Asher was directing during the decade. May 21, 2020 Full Review Paul Lê Bloody Disgusting Tyrrell is indeed the big draw here, but the rest of this horror gem is surprisingly well-crafted, ripe for analysis, and should not go overlooked. Rated: 4/5 Jul 20, 2023 Full Review Trace Thurman Horror Queers Podcast This Oedipus update boasts a powerhouse performance from Susan Tyrrell and incorporates some surprisingly progressive queer content for a film released in 1982. Rated: 3.5/5 Dec 30, 2020 Full Review Joe Lipsett Horror Queers Podcast I went into this thinking: oh, here's a movie, it's a slasher film and...it's going to have a positive queer representation....I didn't realize that it was going to be negotiating this subject...in such an intricate fashion. michael d Weird, rad, and mindfucky. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Jens B Surprisingly good, I enjoyed it! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/14/22 Full Review R P I have to say, it's nice watching Joe Bob Briggs Last Drive In Theater. If I hadn't, I wouldn't have even known about Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker (also known as Night Warning). Which surprises me because I'm a fan of Susan Tyrrell. She plays crazy really well. You get a twist ending, an aunt and nephew way too close for comfort, and a homophobic cop. This should have been a fucking R rated movie! It absolutely shat on whatever my older brother and I hired. In fact, we kept quiet when our Mother came out to the nearby kitchen during viewing, so as not to cause her to ' have a quick look.' Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member An irresistibly twisted performance from Susan Tyrrell makes this an indispensable movie for fans of 80's slasher horror. Although the crazed, overprotective mother theme has been tried before and several times after, this one stands out for its unique approach to just how deep that maternal insanity can go. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member The handsome Jimmy McNichol as 17-year-old Billy is an 80's male beauty in the midst of this bizzare retelling of the Oedipus myth. If you loved the sequel to Nightmare on Elm Street, you are going to eat this right up! A gorgeous male version of the "final girl"!
