Tom Milne Time Out In general, though, the scripting is unimaginative, derivative, and desperately predictable. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Janet Maslin New York Times Nothing spoils a horror story faster than a stupid victim. And Nightmares, an anthology of four supposedly scary episodes, has plenty of those. Aug 1, 2022 Full Review Ian White Starburst Nightmares, a fantastic wedge of '80s horror cheese wherein a host of familiar faces teach us lessons it would be best to heed. martin a Four short stories of a horror theme, all are equally interesting and enjoyable, and have a very Stephen King feel! A great cast, great settings give this horror set an enjoyable watching experience Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member While the first story was far from original, it was certainly watchable, unfortunately it would prove to be the high point of the film. The second and third story were bland and unimaginative, but the final story had one of the most laughably bad climaxes I have ever seen. I didn't expect high quality effects from this movie, but the final scene was one that I won't soon forget. It almost makes this movie worth watching...but you should just watch the last scene instead if you need a quick laugh So bad. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member It's just an okay horror anthology. The first and third segments are pretty cool, but it's, for the most part, a weak rehash of a bunch of other movies. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member I love horror anthologies. I hunt down as many as I can get my hands on. I searched EXTRA hard for this one, because it sounded like a good time. I was half right. 2 stars go to the super scary first segment (in which a suburban housewife takes a late night trip to the store for cigarettes when a homicidal maniac is on the loose) and a half a star to an incredible special effect in the third segment (a truck emerging from the mouth of hell in a story about a lapsed priest who encounters the truck from hell.) The first has great tension that mounts and mounts until the shocking (if you've never heard the old urban legend) finale. And the third-that special effect is singlehandedly better than anything in "The Car." The second and fourth stories are brought down by hilariously outdated special effects. There's a veritable who's who of actors and actresses, past and future stars, to bring the stories to life. But overall this one was only about half good. 2 and 1/2 stars seems fair. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member I remember liking 2-3 of the stories as a kid. Alas, only the 1st story holds up. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Bad acting and unintended comedy fill this stupid horror movie. It took itself way too seriously and it did not provide very many thrills. Overall very poorly made. 1.5 out of 5 stars. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
