Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times If the title "Nipples and Palm Trees" sounds dubious, just wait till you see the movie - a dreary, dirty-talking sex comedy from the you've-got-to-be-kidding-me school of filmmaking. Rated: 1.5/5 Jul 12, 2012 Full Review Brent Simon Shockya.com There's plenty of color and sizzle but precious little of substance in this unenlightening tale of a down-and-out Los Angeles artist and his fitful relationship with his muse. Rated: C- Sep 26, 2012 Full Review Michael Nordine L.A. Weekly Never succeeds in its attempts to instill this faux grittiness with enough substance or pathos to rise above its raunchy core and let its would-be emotional scenes hit the marks they're meant to. Audience Member The newest entry in From The Depths, Nipples & Palm Trees is an indie sex dramedy about a sleazy guy who can't get over his on again off again Ex, so he wanders around town having a lot of undeserved sex. Its part of the month of love as I watch four mostly unknown films about love for the From The Depths reviews. The main Issue have with this, is that it feels unrealistic. Like this is what the writer wishes would happen when you get obsessed with a woman, and try to get over her by wandering around having sex. Jackson, the lead is also very unlikable and somehow convinces women to do what he wants with lines like "You've got really nice tits." Works every time I guess. The movie plays out like a new age Gillette commercial, and never really goes anywhere at all. Like a slice of life style movie without the human interest part to it. In fairness, his ex is not a good person as she drags Jackson along in her dumb game. In fact, I wanted them to get together at the end to take them out of the dating pool for other people. Also, as a side note, the weird and bizarre sex, the synopsis talks about is group sex, a threesome, and rough sex...Those don't seem that weird. Anyways, if you want to read my full review of this, head to my website. If not, I still think you're awesome. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member I laughed out loud at the ridiculous situations this guy gets himself into. Super funny entertainment. Great acting and comedy. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member good melancholy film. Nice camera work, acting good, nice story that doesn't really go anywhere, in a good way Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Nothings really in it to keep you watching let alone get you hooked.. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member It didn't blow me away, but at all times I was moderately interested and curious what would happen next. It's indie, very different type of story, and a bit depressing. But let's be real, it's not a masterful film or a ground breaking work... more of a novelty. Ultimately, it felt like a documentary of a less funny, less fun, less witty, less eventful, more depressing, poor version of californification. However, I'm glad I watched it. But, I won't watch it again. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
