Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express ...Nishaanchi is watered-down and tepid, with none of the crackling energy and verve that Kashyap packed in GOW part one and two, making the double-bill, especially the first, a film for the ages. Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 7, 2025 Full Review Anupama Chopra The Hollywood Reporter Nischaanchi gets bogged down by its length and by the familiarity of the storytelling. Oct 3, 2025 Full Review Rishabh Suri Hindustan Times If you can overlook the drag, the performances and Kashyap’s eye for detail make it worth a watch, though it never quite escapes the shadow of Wasseypur. Rated: 3/5 Oct 7, 2025 Full Review Ganesh Aaglave Firstpost On the whole, Nishaanchi is an out-and-out commercial entertainer with a signature Anurag Kashyap style. Rated: 3/5 Oct 7, 2025 Full Review Abhishek Srivastava The Times of India The runtime is heavy, and the songs don’t stay with you, but the world Kashyap builds and the performances make it worth sitting through. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 7, 2025 Full Review Devesh Sharma Filmfare Watch Nishaanchi for its unapologetic ’70s cinema energy, for performances that hit home, and for the reminder that when Anurag Kashyap is in his element, few can match the earthiness and electricity of his storytelling. Sharang L Watched only the first part. Kashyap seems to be regurgitating his better works but fails to add any soul to this one. The star cast is brilliant though. Monica Panwar is one of the most fascinating Indian actors around. Thakre and Pinto are impressive too. Wish Kashyap had got brought his A-game to the writing department. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/16/25 Full Review Shailendra K Anurag Kashyap has been trying to recreate the magic of his peak era of creativity with a mix of experimental arthouse and commercial movies for the last decade but hasn't been able to find the exact frequency that his fanbase and critics can appreciate and enjoy. Nishaanchi is a movie that comes very close to the frequency that one can relate to Kashyap. Nishaanchi is a pretty well made two part crime and revenge saga set in small town India with characters, vibes and style like another two part crime and revenge saga set in small town India that Anurag Kashyap is best known for. In fact Nishaanchi feels a bit like Gangs of Wasseypur lite with lesser characters, plotlines, people to be avenged but still the same at heart. Nishaanchi 1 and 2 on the whole should be an enjoyable experience especially for Kashyap and GOW fans and even though it is a good movie, it will always pale in comparison with the much superior masterpiece from the 2010s. The story is pretty solid even though it is heavily inspired and styled like GOW. This is a multi-generational saga of Zabardast Pehelwaan played by Vineet Kumar, his wife Manjari played by Monica Panwar, their twin sons Babloo and Dabloo played by Aaishvary Thackeray, their love interest Rangeeli Rinku played by Vedika Pinto and the protagonist Ambika Prasad played by the impeccable Kumud Mishra. The characters are written and developed very similar to GOW's Shahid Khan, Nagma Khatoon, Faizal, Mohsina and Ramadhir Singh. These character are very well written and played beautifully by the actors, however I kept on relating elements of their personality, story arcs and actions to those of the relatable GOW characters. Like GOW, the first part focuses on the early life of Babloo and Dabloo and shows the backstory of Zabardast Pehelwaan, Manjari and Ambika Prasad while the second part focuses on the next generation of Babloo, Dabloo, Rinku and the ever-present Ambika Prasad. Aaishvary Thackeray as the main protagonist of the movie does a great job playing the twins with extremely different personalities. In fact the two characters are so different that I had to check wikipedia if the same actor played both characters or if there are actually real twins playing the two characters. Babloo AKA Tony Mantena AKA Nishaanchi and Dabloo is a great performance by a new artist. Vedika Pinto looks stunning, fiery and fierce in the movie and does a pretty good job as the beautiful and complicated Rinku. Vineet Kumar gives another terrific performance in the comparatively smaller role of Zabardast Pehelwaan. However the real stars of the movie are Monica Panwar and Kumud Mishra who are just terrific as the OG Nishaanchi and the main antagonist. All other actors are cast very well and deliver great performance especially Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub whose Inspector Kamal Ajeeb is a character everyone will love to hate. The music, songs, sets are all very good but extremely reminiscent of GOW. Nishaanchi is a pretty well made movie and in a world without Gangs of Wasseypur, it could have definitely been a much more appreciated movie. The first part is much more entertaining and better than the second part. The second part slows down a bit after all the bloodshed, crimes and romance of the first part but has a very good final act which injects a heavy dose of adrenaline into the movie's bloodstream. The second part gives Aaishvary Thackeray the opportunity to really flex some of his acting muscles. I loved the movie and would definitely recommend it. Comparing Nishaanchi with GOW will happen naturally. However I would recommend that we should identify and relate the similarities and enjoy Nishaanchi as a standalone similar saga set in another world in the same universe as Gangs of Wasseypur and not consider it a ripoff or a poor man's version of the more superior masterpiece. I really enjoyed Nishaanchi. Overall - 8/10. Nishaanchi 1 - 8.5/10. Nishaanchi 2 - 7.5/10 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/16/25 Full Review MUHAMMAD RAMEEZ B Really Enjoyed the film.
