Aly L I loved it although it’s not flawless. The main thing that bothers me is that the relationship between Tim and Isabel doesn’t look believable. Miscast on Mikela J. Mikael as Isabel, maybe? Or is that me? I don’t understand something? But while the tension between Tim and Ivo is electrifying, there seems to be nothing when you see Isabel and Tim together. Even when you see Ivo, Isabel and her husband together there is more fire. Strange… But maybe that’s the idea? There has to be distance between Tim and Isabel for him not to get tired of their relationship? I don’t know. But Tim-Isabel line feels a bit annoying and awkward. And morals of the story? I am not sure about this one. Think before you get into the relationship? Maybe. Be careful of your desires? Be brave? Try to understand better who is your real passion? Do not throw people away like cigarette butts? But all the while, don’t be violent and possessive of your lover? While your thoughts go into many directions watching this film, you surely can enjoy acting, music, beautiful scenery and wistful atmosphere. I’ll give this five stars despite its flaws and me being a little puzzled. I love zeroes for this ambivalence and dreamy moods, yes. Although based on a novel by Barbara Vine (aka Ruth Rendell), it felt to me like something Patricia Highsmith could have conjured up. In fact, I thought more than once about THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY while watching this. And although it doesn't quite hit the heights of the cinematic masterpiece that is RIPLEY, this is still a totally engrossing, intriguing movie about love, obsession and betrayal that had me on the edge of my seat till the very end. All three leads are excellent, particularly Williams, who has the rare ability to make us love and loathe him in equal measure. There are so many twists and turns that I had to watch it twice in order to take it all in - and it was totally worth it. It's actually one of the more intelligent thrillers that I've seen in a long time - it's sexy and sophisticated, it's literate and wonderfully written. And it's a welcome respite for those of us wearied by the cookie-cutter assembly line product we are forced to sit through 90% of the time. Highly recommended!
