Rushing to the hospital as his wife, Susan (Pat Kirkwood), is about to give birth, Michael Hanlon (Van Johnson) relates to another waiting father how he and Susan met. When Michael returns to New York from the war, he is ordered to appear on a popular armed services radio program hosted by Susan. Unwilling to appear, Michael talks his best friend, Slinky (Keenan Wynn), into impersonating him -- but he soon discovers Susan knows a secret about his personal life and must end the deception.
