No Skin Off My Ass is by far one of the best cult films I have seen. The film was shot in black and white, contrasting music (including a song about "Hot Skinheads") montages consist of weird camera angles that represented the mixed emotions of the protagonist. The film starts of in a Mondo Trasho like fashion with no dialogues and only lyrics to display the main theme of the film. The opening sequence seems very flimsy and peeping tom like, it was very artistic I must admit. I really liked the rapid jump cuts that really made you feel like you are having this massive crush on someone.
Then you are introduced to the main characters: A gay hairdresser who has a crush on a skinhead, then he invites him home to make him "warm" with hilarious consequences (Narrated by the hairdresser) The set was absolutely stunning, it paid homage the German Expressionism. It just seemed so natural, but not realistic. The costumes were very stereotypical, not to mention the stock dialogues that made the film seem tawdry.
I really liked the subtle eroticism, everything is highly sexual and yet you don't see much if you do not what you have just watched. The water splashing, television statics and the sound of music playing at the background is actually all very sexual. However, this is only the first part of the film, the rest is porn..
Some of the body shots may be a little bit lengthy, but that's the point of the film, you are viewing the the world as both the hairdresser and the skinhead alternatively, you are listening to the songs that symbolise what they thought of a particular situation.
I don't see this film being a comedy, it's more of a new wave of post modernism and the conflicts between the politics and society. Maybe I am being a little biased here because I can relate to the filming style but I can assure you it's not a film that everyone would enjoy

I received this movie on DVD in the mail from my favourite postal DVD service. I've received a number of scratched/skipping DVDs from them over he past few months; sadly this movie was not one of them.
After reading other reviews about "No Skin Off My Ass" I was prepared for the worst. Having watched a number of other 'gay themed' movies and read awful reviews, I already had low expectations and have become used to low-budget flicks of questionable plot.
After becoming accustomed to the grainy black & white filmstock during the opening titles (which lasted a good 10 or so minutes) I finally began to realise just how inaccurate the reviews for this flick were. "Awful" "self aware" and "obnoxiously dull" really didn't quite grasp how bad this movie was. So much so I felt compelled to sign up to Rotten Tomatoes to write this review.
Please don't watch this film. Please.
Randomly mashed together scenes that made no sense, exaggerated lengthy scenes that would have made more sense being edited out, and a very non-convincing voice over (dubbed out of sync with the characters and scenes) await any viewer who dares to press 'play'.
I must point out I gave the flick 10% purely for the diverse and often interesting musical soundtrack/score that managed to keep me from holding my head under water until the bubbles stopped.
Yes, I do admit to watching the move from start to end, purely out of curiosity to see if things improved (they did not). There's 110 minutes of my life I will not get back.
FYI there's a nice "pimple squeezing" scene at 1:03 in the film. What a shame it's in grainy B&W as I'm sure the puss would have added some much needed substance. There's also a juicy eating-peanut-butter-off-toes scene that would put the Duchess of York (Sarah Ferguson) to shame (read:toe jam). Whilst I am sure these were meant to shock, my own personal experience was a feeling of "and?"; if you want to shock me, try putting in a believable plot with a twist I didn't see coming...
If you're looking for a gay movie that 'shows bits' try "Locked up", or perhaps "Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss" if you'd like something with a bit of feeling.
To quote another reviewer... "you have been warned".
