What to Know

Critics Consensus

It benefits from the presence of Natalie Portman and director Ivan Reitman's steady hand, but No Strings Attached doesn't have the courage or conviction to follow through on its ribald premise.

Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express No Strings Attached energizes the tired romantic comedy genre by combining a pair of comely lovers and lines which leap and fizz, except when they have to fight mushy dips. Rated: 3/5 Apr 3, 2019 Full Review Leonard Maltin leonardmaltin.com This being a Hollywood romantic comedy, the outcome of the story-about a man and woman who agree to a sex-only relationship-is obvious from the get-go, so this film is all about the journey, not the destination... Jul 8, 2011 Full Review Philip French Guardian [A] dislikable, distasteful, indifferently acted romantic comedy... Feb 28, 2011 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) Anemic little comedy. [Full review in Spanish] Oct 7, 2022 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies Ivan Reitman is one of the best comedy filmmakers of his generation--especially his 1980s output--but No Strings Attached is not one of his better films. Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 30, 2022 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins An average raunchy sex comedy, lacking likeable characters, plausibility, and general funniness. sammy f Bro this is inappropriate and very sexual, it had something with some guy saying he is knocked out on a couch or something then it said that he was doing an inappropriate dance and going like "Wee! Look at my dick!!" and it was disgusting also I heard some moaning sounds in the movie too while my friends were watching it and then I looked at the TV and it had some naked people in bed. It also talks about sex almost every minute at least once, and it is very inappropriate and stupid. I also heard some man talking about having sex with a person named Emma. I also heard a woman talking about getting laid off and I was like what?!?! And I remember them talking about penises in the movie. This is nasty and degenerate and sick, also no strings attached means to have a sexual relationship with somebody without caring about them and being in love with them. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/21/25 Full Review Leaburn O One of the worst rom coms of the time period. The plot is paper thin, the comedy is non existent and it’s obviously wildly predictable. There’s little to commend but the lading pair have a reasonable chemistry. It’s just dull though. Really boring. Watched on DVD. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/25 Full Review Ciaran S A romantic comedy starring Natalie Portman & Ashton Kutcher, well that's a first. Although No Strings Attached can have great moments (especially the sex scenes) but the story, the script and the jokes take away the excitement of what a great movie could've been. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/06/24 Full Review Frederick T Alright - had potential with the concept but in the end it was rushed and cheesy Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/09/24 Full Review Dinos K Portman is a good actress but in silly movies like this she's wasting her talent Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/20/24 Full Review Jason M Great little flick. Almost got me to shed a tear and root for this couple to "make it." Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/24 Full Review Read all reviews
