Well-regarded French doctor Francoise Gailland (Annie Girardot) is high-achieving and career-driven. She also keeps a secret lover named Daniel (Jean-Pierre Cassel). As a result, her husband, Gerard (François Perier), son, Julien (William Coryn), and pregnant daughter, Elisabeth (Isabelle Huppert), barely get to spend time with her. This changes, though, when Dr. Gailland finds she has cancer, leading her to reexamine her priorities, her relationships and life itself.
