This was well-acted and beautiful, not because it's visuals were anything super special but because of the emotions of the simple story and characters. It felt like a children's book that came to life. It might be a little scary and sad for little kids but it was quite clean and sometimes even funny.

Okay, I really loved this, and I don't say that often. This had a great storyline, great art, and even I jumped out of my seat at a few parts. I cried, I laughed, I gasped. All in one movie. It's an extremely underrated and great gem in animation history.

If you have any sentimentality for Little Nemo or James and the Giant Peach, then treat yourself, your kids and your animation loving friends to this magical treat. Though there is a decent chance you may be to old for this sort of story, the sophisticated animation and beautiful designs should fill your cinematic appetite well enough.

This is the kind of animated film I seek for family movie night. Beauty, strangeness, wisdom, adventure... and a lesson about fear and courage that resonated deeply with all of us (aged 7-41). Highly recommended. 4.5 stars -- but I can't round down, esp bc I might be unfairly comparing it to the inestimable "Ernest & Celestine" which we watched just a couple nights ago. :)
