      Critics Consensus

Nocturne's thought-provoking themes find themselves at odds with its genre ingredients, resulting in a mild blend that isn't quite pulpy enough.

Kashgar A A solid horror movie. Well acted, goes the way you kinda hope it will - and if that makes it predictable, then so be it. I'm siding with the critics on this one rather than the audience's consensus. A good movie Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/24 Full Review Stark G I watch this because of Sydney Sweeney The movie is good it shows how envy can corrupt people. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/24 Full Review Tim R "Fantastic Horror/thriller! Sydney Sweeney truly shines as you watch her slow decent into madness. An absolute must watch!" Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/30/23 Full Review Gianmarco R Horror with a beginning and also some nice implications even if predictable but it has an embarrassing plot unfolding, it is very inconclusive and the film seems to go on as if by inertia towards the predictable ending without ever really engaging in the scenes, but if you watch the film with extreme superficiality and without giving too much attention to anything it is likely that it can also surprise since it still entertains enough Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/01/22 Full Review Audience Member Interesting at first and less so later, and absolutely unsatisfying at the end. So there you go. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Has some nice atmosphere and suspense at the beginning, but just doesn't go anywhere. Ryan Lattanzio indieWire Still, the way this story unfolds, and how it unpeels its protagonist into a sexually deflowered, master musician is too predictable to be scary, despite a few striking tableaux involving a psychedelic. Rated: C Oct 22, 2020 Full Review Al Horner Empire Magazine If it's psychological horror you love, Nocturne will be music to your ears. If not super-scary, Quirke's film is an accomplished, uncomfortable tour de force. Rated: 4/5 Oct 16, 2020 Full Review A.A. Dowd AV Club Nocturne, like its brittle protagonist, is good enough at what it does to make you wish it were a little better. Rated: B Oct 14, 2020 Full Review Jordy Sirkin Jordy Reviews It I found it to be a little convoluted at times, but it recovers with some eye-catching cinematic moments. Feb 22, 2023 Full Review Carolyn Hinds The Beat Thematically, [filmmaker Zu] Quirk and her production team have created a very pleasingly atmospheric film with Nocturne. Jul 27, 2021 Full Review Daniel Gorman In Review Online Nocturne nonetheless very much plays as a YA horror flick, a kind of baby's-first-Faustian-bargain. Jun 5, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews
