Critics Consensus

The always charming Anna Kendrick does her best, but Noelle's progressive take on a timeless tale is unfortunately subdued.

You'll have forgotten every last thing about Noelle by next Christmas, but that's almost a plus side to its flimsy charm - those baubles won't put themselves up. Go to Full Review

Over all, Noelle is subpar - but it's silly, harmless fun. It's so forgettable it'll be virtually erased from your memory five minutes after the end credits roll. Go to Full Review

Whatever your idea of a sentimental connect-the-dots Christmas comedy is, this is sub that. Go to Full Review

Noelle is pleasant to watch, but is almost exclusively dependent on the heaping amount of charm that Anna Kendrick brings to the table. Go to Full Review

John H @Johnny249 Jan 4 I just watched it and loved it but I couldn't shake the felling that this movie felt like it was meant to be in 3d the visuals the shots gave me a 3d feeling See more Kristian Y @Kyeager Dec 24 Every bad review you will read is completely wrong or written by someone with absolutely no Christmas spirit! Noelle surpassed Elf as my favorite Christmas movie! It’s such a heartwarming story and truly captures the essence of everything Christmas should be. The always charming Anna Kendrick gives an amazing performance and makes this movie worth watching. See more D3Z 1 Dec 24 Even though Anna Kendrick did what she could do within her role in which she still delivers, Noelle would had benefitted more if it had an interesting story and gave its characters and cast more time to shine on screen See more Ed R @JustcallmeER Dec 23 Not the best Christmas movie or morals to it. See more Sean M. @Babblestock Dec 22 Decent plot about not losing the magic of Chrtmas. The acting and script was passable and sometimes clever. Longest Apple ad ever. See more Sam M. Dec 21 While the film is charming at the beginning with a pretty modern and fresh look at old Christmas traditions of Santa Claus this film lacks in any significant value overall. While I enjoyed the subplots about changing the North Pole to a more Amazon like delivery service and I found it entertaining it was horribly overshadowed by the ELF-esque antics of someone going to the “real” world for the first time. Another simple complaint about this plot is that how they build up the entire movie about the child of the Private Investigator wanting to learn more about cooking and or cook, but being afraid his dad wouldn’t like it (a common occurrence in childhood) but then at the end throw it out the window by one throw away line "Cooking supplies out drum set in" did you need to do that? Just to accurately represent children’s wandering interests it failed to give any narrative satisfaction for that character. Another example of the movie forgetting its characters motivations is how Nick wants to "Move somewhere warm” but then just moves back to the North Pole at the end? The movie could have easily addressed this by Nick saying something like "Yeah I didn’t want to leave the North Pole because of the temperature it was because I was afraid of the responsibility of Santa” but they choose not to just to get the whole gang back together at the end. Let’s take a sec to talk about the titular character Noelle. What is there to say? She’s just recycled Buddy the Elf. It’s a good movie for kids but when you take a deeper dive you see the flaws.
