Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times Cheerfully derivative yet doggedly entertaining, "Number 37" benefits from Dumisa's slick execution and impressive acting by her small cast. Nov 10, 2018 Full Review Aramide Tinubu Shadow and Act Arresting and heart-stopping, Number 37 is a fiercely acted and directed tale of the intense mayhem that can be born out of anger, desperation, and sheer entitlement. The buildup alone is worth the ride. Nov 5, 2018 Full Review Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times Deeply emotive performances by Ally and Rockman plus a strong turn by Sandi Schultz as the dead cop's partner, further elevate this tough, vivid film. Nov 1, 2018 Full Review Alix Turner Ready Steady Cut Randal is badly injured, as a result of his debt to his loan shark boss; while recovering, he observes a murder in the opposite apartment block. An extremely tense feature debut from Nosipho Dumisa. Rated: 4/5 Feb 2, 2021 Full Review Allen Almachar The MacGuffin Number 37 didn't work for me in terms of character, but on a technical level there is a lot of promise. Rated: C+ Jul 17, 2020 Full Review Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru A mildly gripping and very gritty, but unremarkable and forgettable B-movie. Unlike Rear Window, it leaves no room for interpretation nor for the imagination. Rated: 7/10 Nov 10, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Monique Rockman provided an encapsulating performance through her character Pamâ(TM)s relentless and hardcore actions in Number 37. Forced to assist her boyfriend in ethical decision making and performing dangerous actions (as he is now handicapped due to past criminal involvement), Pam demonstrates true endurance and bravery, which is perfectly delivered by Rockman. I hope to see more from her, and highly recommend you see her incredible and tough performance as a female lead in Number 37. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Number 37 is well-produced film that puts a modern twist on the classic Alfred Hitchcock film ï¿ 1/2 1/2Rear Windowï¿ 1/2 1/2ï¿ 1/2?. With its similar story line of a wheel-chaired man who witnesses a murder, director Nosipho Dumisa does a great job in making this film unique with itï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)s distinctive South African backdrop, suspenseful and intense narrative, and well-captured cinematography. I was extremely impressed with this filmï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)s production and found myself feeling like I was one with the characters also experiencing their scary obstacles. I thoroughly enjoyed Number 37 and would definitely recommend watching it if you are fond of action films. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Number 37 is a thriller guaranteed to keep you on your toes. Itâ(TM)s focused mainly on Randal (Irshaad Ally), who must repay a dangerous drug dealer before itâ(TM)s too late for not only himself, but his girlfriend, Pam (Monique Rockman), as well. I am a huge fan of this film not just because of the similarities it has to Hitchcockâ(TM)s Rear Window, but because of how the plot draws you in immediately. The film is intense from beginning to end, and you canâ(TM)t draw your eyes away if you tried, which is what I love. I highly recommend this film to anyone looking for a good thrill. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member There is no shortage of ominous anticipation and suspense throughout Number 37, making it one of the most compelling thriller stories Iâ(TM)ve seen in the last year. The perfect homage to Alfred Hitchcockâ(TM)s original Rear Window story, young director Nosipho Dumisa incorporates flares of modernism and south African culture to her version that makes this film feel completely original while sticking to the riveting conflict of Hitchcockâ(TM)s story. Combining aspects of mystery, terror, and wit Dumisaâ(TM)s film is an entertaining experience for any fans looking for a thrill. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Number 37 is a must see if youï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)re into crime films. Itï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)s nothing like other crime movies out there. The film is about a man, Randall (played by Irshaad Ally), who somehow finds himself in the middle of crime. He doesnï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)t necessarily have any criminal intentions. Randal isnï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)t your typical criminal robbing and murdering innocent people. Heï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)s paralyzed from the waist down and has to make his way through life in a wheelchair. Randal just happens to finds himself in a lot of debt to a dangerous man. One day, when Randall is sitting at his apartment window looking across the street he notices a gang murder a police officer. He decides to use this as leverage to get money from the gang so he can pay back his debt. Unfortunately, when dealing with crime, trouble is bound to happen. Randall must now figure out a way to protect both himself and his girlfriend when two groups of people have bad blood with him. If youï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)re into crime thrillers, give Number 37 a shot. I donï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)t think youï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)ll be disappointed! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member To say that Number 37 is merely a tribute to Hitchcockâ(TM)s âRear Windowâ? would completely undermine Director Nosipho Dumisaâ(TM)s masterful execution of a gritty and suspenseful portrait of human survival. As the film moves through each scene, an impending sense of doom for the main characters is consistently felt, as you attempt to root for them in the face of adversity and chaos, some of which they bring upon themselves. The entire cast also gave extremely convincing performances, depicting a gradual, yet inevitable descend into complete physical and mental chaos. Undeniably striking, Number 37 is sure to enthrall all fans of crime and suspense, offering a refreshingly powerful take on the genre.
