Visually striking but thinly scripted, Oblivion benefits greatly from its strong production values and an excellent performance from Tom Cruise.

Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online It's a shame that its poor editing inhibits what could have been a memorable movie. Rated: C+ Sep 7, 2017 Full Review Jason Bailey Flavorwire Here's the trouble with mainstream science fiction filmmaking these days: there's no expectation that an audience is capable of putting things together or waiting for a payoff. Jun 21, 2016 Full Review Chris Stuckmann ChrisStuckmann.com The story that eventually surfaces is no where near as interesting as the mesmerizing look of the film. Rated: B Apr 23, 2015 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand There’s no denying that Oblivion is derivative.... But director Joseph Kosinski, adapting his own graphic novel, sure knows how to make it look beautiful and evocative. Nov 6, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Oblivion’s characters do little more than service the puzzle-based plot, leaving the sometimes predictable dialogue to the actors to enhance. Joseph F I do wish I could remake this movie, pleasantly to remove: Tom Cruise explaining everything ... the long winded poetic climax points ... and of course the aliens speaking southern American ... And no one dying... hmmm .... actually perfect for 13 YO me! But truly Gorgeous CGI Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/13/24 Full Review Zachary Jacob S Oblivion is a beautiful film visually! Beyond that, it has a truly masterful score! Fantastic stuff. The story is intriguing! Maybe a little bit over explained at times, but that doesn't hurt the film for me! It might not be universally enjoyed by everyone, but I'd still recommend at least trying it! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/08/24 Full Review Harrison B It's actually crazy this movie doesn't have better reviews. I was curious and ended up making an account here just to post one - I haven't watched this in probably nearly a decade, and after just finishing it, I found it still holds up over 10 years later. It's visually stunning and the sound design is amazing for a sci-fi movie. I know the story isn't the greatest, but it's still engaging and at times, keeps you on the edge of your seat. It could use more light on the backstories and how certain tech came around instead of it just existing in the near future, and maybe more on the main antagonist - but overall it's certainly an entertaining sci-fi flick. Can't believe the average on here is only 50/50 - that's increadbly low even for a somewhat unoriginal sci fi story. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/02/24 Full Review Brandon H This was awful. I kept watching to see if it could get any worse. It did. If you've watched Aeonflux, The Matrix, and AI, you've really already seen this movie. There was nothing original about it. It was a "scab" of a movie that stole every concept from other sci-fi movies. I wish I could get my time back. How this ever got a single positive review is amazing... I feel bad that Morgan Freeman ever had to do this. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/25/24 Full Review Will G I found the story confusing. The visual effects were stunning. Morgan Freeman and Tom Cruise were good actors in this movie. It was interesting that this movie was about drones. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/16/24 Full Review Frank C The plot doesn't make much sense, with all the women standing around helplessly and Tom's character needed to save the day. Not much humor, not much action. Collateral was so much better. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/13/24 Full Review Read all reviews
